It's completely normal to be afraid of insects. Or anything, really. Every person is a complex maze of feelings and emotions, which means we are all different. Your mother shouldn't look down on you for it, many people are afraid of them too.

I'm not afraid, but very annoyed.

I hate camping, 'cause I hate being around so many trees and bushes; simply because I don't want

any insects or bugs crawling up my leg, dropping in on my food, or flying into my mouth when I am

speaking.

I had it when I was a little girl. It got so bad that I really couldn't go out doors in the spring and summer.

Eventually the fear grew into hate of them, but then they found out that the because of my sensitive ears I just really hated the buzzing.

But it's okay. Everyone has something they're afraid of. The important thing is that it doesn't stop you from living your life.

My roach phobia was so bad that when I was little and there was one in the room, even if it was dead, I'd run out of the room or climb up on top of something crying and screaming for somebody to get it. If one showed up in my room, even after my parents got it, I'd stay awake with anxiety for hours. It got worse when we moved to Florida since ALL THE BUGS ARE GIANT AND PRESENT YEAR-ROUND.

Thankfully, I've outgrown the worst of it, but they still make me visibly sick if I look at one. Don't be ashamed, but get someone to help you through it if you can.
