Is it true that Muslims cannot choose a non-Muslim as their leader? (President, governor, etc)

I heard that some people use verses in Quran to support this statement. how common is this belief among all the Muslim worldwide?

in my country not really, there are pro / contra, there are muslims whose choose non-muslim and the opposite whose only vote for muslim

it's not like that, it is just that most muslim countries are majority muslim if not completely muslim so naturally leaders are going to be muslim too by default but there is politic diversity in some countries that have religious diversity like Lebanon, for example.

Theres this saying, that we should obey our ruler. I haven't heard its for "Muslim rulers only" nor implied we shouldn't take non Muslim as our ruler.

Yes. Because it be easier for them to implement policies for Muslims. I haven't heard a non Muslim majority country with a Muslim leader nowadays tbh

yes, it's written on Quran. isn't it a common sense that countries with majority of muslim will have a muslim leader to understand the policies for muslim. I never know any muslim countries that have non muslim leaders.

 

Nowadays, people will cherry picking what they want to believe even though it was blatantly prohibited or required in Quran verses. Take hijab for example, all muslim women are required to wear it but a lot of people still find excuses to not wear it. Even some medias portray that hijab against woman's right.
