Throwback to when groups sang LIVE during weekly music shows. Like, actually.

This is what a real live performance sounds like. Not like all the prerecorded tracks we hear today...

You can hear that each girl has a microphone of slightly different volume and quality - which is actually what we expect since sound systems are not perfect. Taeyeon's mic for instance was quieter than the rest, especially during her ad libs over the last chorus. You can also clearly hear all of their breathing, and that they're actually putting in effort to sing and dance at the same time. For example, you can hear Jessica's voice almost crack when she does an ad lib in the second verse, and if you pay attention you'll be able to pick out her voice over the backtrack in all the choruses. During the last chorus in particular, you hear her voice coming in and out before she finally takes a breath to do her ad lib more loudly. Live performances can be good, but they can't be perfect.

Nowadays groups trick naive fans into thinking they're singing live on music shows by lipsyncing to prerecorded vocals... it might "sound" live but at least in the broadcasted version, they're lipsyncing. I'm not going to name any specific groups because everyone does it now, to the point where they even manipulate the volume during a certain member's parts (to convince fans that their idols were having mic issues...) A key way to determine whether or not a group is actually singing live is by watching their lips.

we talked about this already and yes we all agree we preffer live vocals even if they are a little shaky but we can't do anything for change that (and actually that backing track is still something) watch SNSD debut performances until Gee, those are actual live vocals without any backing track

more gg examples

I so prefer a flawed live performance to a flawless lipsynched one. Although with difficult choreo I can understand why it might not happen

I honesty don't understand why ANY group would lip sync. Sure one per promotion is fine. But an entire concert or promotion is a nono.

I mean, ain't that's why they spend HOURS/YEAS training for? I

You can basically put any sistar performance from 2010-now and I'm pretty sure 98% of them are live.

No offense, but 70% of sistar's songs were only sang by one person, others are stable but sometimes they lipsync

I sort of half agree with this tbh,but some idols have schools to go so they didnt exactly train like 24/7, plus some probably need to learn the music theory and stuff liddat b4 begin real singing not to mention they need to train their stamina for dancing and learn how to dance. Some maybe are plain tired from a lot of promotion+school, some might be company decision to not let them sing, some probably scared they sound breathy/voice cracking, it's just my two cents tho, dun take it too hard. But I agree with why would anybody lip sync.

Doesn't really matter if Hyorin is the one who sing the most, sistar still rarely lip sync, and that was my point. You can go even back to their Push Push days and you would see how clearly ALL of their vocals were even without MR. Also SISTAR stable live singing is one of the reason why they got pocular. Just this year they got praised for their LIVE performance on GDA.

I know they didn't train for 24/7 but they still trained A LOT and for YEARS. And if even they still can't sing while dance after a few years why would the company even debut that idol? Especially from the Big 3 who probably has a lot of trainees.

It's really hard to explain it here tho == I couldnt really put my opinions into words, its ok but you shouldnt ignore the fact that it could possible be companies decision + they have tight and busy schedule and barely have enough time to sleep so they are tired, it's supremely lethargic to sing and dance at the same time, with all those schedule they probably have lots of performance and activities, so they chose to lipsync to conserve some energy to continue on with their schedule without collapsing, ofc I dun really support lipsynching but sometimes you have to understand their situation, some may seems they are fine in variety shows but who knows they are faking everything and was tired on the inside yet still faking a smile?

all this sounds like excuses, for trainee they probably don't have the same schedule everyday. For idols, I'm sure doesn't matter how successful you always can find time to improve yourself, I mean, Hyorin and Taemin are clearly some example of this and they are both busy idols. The thing is how the idol chose to spend his free time.

i agree completely with what you've said about each individual idol's drive for self-improvement, but i guess to some extent their group matters as well.

if your group members all have - relatively - the same drive for improvement, then you can actually practice and try to convince your company to let you sing live. but if you have members who are content to lip-sync, then there's really not much you can do but lip-sync along with the group and hope to go solo someday.
