How do you feel about the theory that BTS's Spring Day is a tribute to the Sewol Ferry Accident?

Do you think the families of the victims got the meaning behind this video?

It's not the confirmed theory behind this video but it is a strong speculation.

I feel like the saddest part of this MV was when (Suga?) started rapping on top of the piled up clothes and when it started as very dark and there was a brim  lustre of light which illuminated the surrounding. When you watch underwater scene of light (blocked by lumps of clouds) piercing through the ocean, it looks about the same. I think it defines the people who drowned and the last part about the shoes hanging on the tree branch was apparently what people did in SK to pay respects to those who died in the accident.

Please read below about the theory.

I don't think so.

Why would there be many clothes? Because many people died.

I feel like this theory matches thoroughly.

Like at the start the guy was in the train track and tried to listen to the track for any sound (sorry I don't know who exactly it was at the beginning) and this could be the family members still having the feeling that their children coming back home (who usually says things like "I'm home/back").

The scene where Jin was trying to capture the moment that his friends are going up the stairs could mean two things. One is that the children who died in the accident were on their trip. Of course they would wanna capture beautiful moments and sceneries. Second is that it could it's a moment that the dead ascending to heaven (because they disappeared afterwards).

Then there was that part when there was someone by the beach who found shoes (which had probably been washed up).

And the fast forward time thing, I think it's the family suffering from the loss of their children where the time stops for them, but eventually when the guy joined the timelapse with the other guys, I think it's that the living family members will eventually join their lost loved ones when they die.

The match stick was probably about families giving funeral for their loved ones and you know in some old folkore the spirit of the dead is present when there's a a funeral held for them? And when the light died out, they all disappeared and ascended to heaven.

Edit: and if you watched the video carefully, you'll see that the huge pile of clothes is suddenly on a mountain peak where you can see clouds. This is heaven and the people who died already arks in heaven.

And about Jungkook on the passing train while the other guys are running down the corridor and looked seemingly surprised at the passing train, I think it's about the family members wanting to reunite or pick up their child from their trip and no longer can't because their child already passed away.

I think the washing machine is kinda like the ocean and tidal waves. The waves will push up and go back down which signifies a cycle in which the washing machine shows too (a cycle of water going in the machine, spinning and the cycle ends with the water coming out, then repeated on the next wash). The people who died are in the ocean and obv they have clothes on them.

I didn't even think it was about the ferry accident. I know that Red Velvet's mv was a obvious tribute but this one didn't give me any vibes to that. But if they did make a tribute then I think it's very nice but I just assumed it was another part to the long story that their mv's have been telling

Well obviously lumpen and bts create art. And art is open for people's interpretations. So speculate away, thats why bts vids always generate discussion among army because the true meaning of the mv is always vague enough to have many interesting interpretations.

I think that's too narrow an interpretation.

it's not though

the part you're talking about just meant that suga was inside the washing machine

It's really not. This is just my opinion, but I think it'd be a bit disrespectful if that was the case.

Personally for me IF even the mv is refering to the sewol tragedy i dont find it disrespectful tbh because the song is meant to bring comfort for the grieving ones. I mean look at the lyrics. And besides there are efforts made to bury the tragedy from being talk about by power that be. It only make bts braver in my eyes to even dare to dedicate a song about the victims and tge grieving ones and sings about a sensitive issue. But thats just me. People are entitled to their feelings as you your's

There are no hint whatsoever linking the plot of the MV to Sewol and the Omelas motel is a dead giveaway it's not linked to the incident it's referring to a short story by Ursual K Le Guin
