Honest question: Is the Rising Sun symbol ever okay to use?

To be honest, before I got into K-Pop, I didn't know that the Rising Sun symbol was seen as so offensive in places like Korea. But the thing is, it's not like I didn't know that symbol was used during WWII, I just was under the impression that the meaning of it had changed over the years. I thought that when people saw the Rising Sun nowadays, they think of just "Japanese pride" before they think of the atrocities Japan committed during WWII.

Maybe that's just my dumb American ass talking, but growing up watching anime and getting interested in Japanese culture, I end up seeing the Rising Sun quite a bit. And whenever I did, it always came off to me as just "Japanese pride". It was almost always used to represent something super (sometimes stereotypically) Japanese. Kinda like this:

In fact, one of my favorite games of all time, Okami, uses the Rising Sun imagery a lot. The game is all about Japanese mythology, ancient lore, celebrating nature and tranquility, and vanquishing evil demons. It's a very Japanese game.

You play as the sun goddess, Amaterasu, and as the sun goddess, one of your main abilities is making the sun rise. It looks like this.

And there are plenty of other instances too.

Hell, one of the biggest songs in the game that plays during the final battle (spoilers I guess??) is called The Sun Rises or Rising Sun

This song is fucking amazing by the way

So in these examples, is the Rising Sun imagery okay to use, or no, is it never okay? Okami for example certainly isn't some kind of game promoting hate or war propaganda or anything like that, it's just a game that celebrates ancient Japanese culture, mythology, and nature. But even still, is it something that they shouldn't do?

If Japan is the one using it.. Isn't like a symbol of their "pride" ? The funny thing is.. in my Japanese class.. teacher doesn't like Chinese.. because of the war.. and China don't like Japanese.. This symbol don't ever ever use it honestly.. Especially in China..

"It is still used in Japan as a symbol of tradition and good fortune, and is incorporated into commercial products and advertisements."

here you go

I'm not well-versed on the topic (the Rising Flag) but isn't that practically the same as how the Confederate Flag is not uncommonly used because some people use it to represent states' rights and Southern pride.

Those are not rising sun symbol but sun ray art. It's the most popular way to draw rays and can be drawn from corner too. Those are not the same and have zero connection to the japan flag. You can just google sun ray to know as much. Don't be an idiot.

The rising sun symbol is originally the flag taken off from a Japanese feudal warlord during edo era. It was adopted by the meiji era as the Imperial war flag to represent the country in times of war. It was given that connotation because the flag has been adopted by the Japanese army and the Imperial Navy during the world war 2 as a symbol of respect towards the tradition from the Shogun's and Daimyo.

Since the flag has been used during World War 2, it has been tainted and was the symbol of hate for the Japanese because of the atrocities. Koreans and Chinese see the flag as a symbol of hate towards Japan.

Fyi, American military also uses the rising flag symbol for the military insignia.

the point is, those rising sun or the swastika were once just a normal symbol at the beginning.....but after that ...war happen and ppl use that symbol..that what make ppl soo sensitive..that symbol use and it meaning during that war time.. so if u gonna say i dont understand why ppl so sensitive about this symbol and show the original meaning of that symbol .....aint nobody gonna have the same idea with u ,cuz ppl will only picture those symbol and what make it famous for in general public nowday ....and that is the time those symbol were use during the WORLD war 2........ :._.:  is...not that deep ... :derp:

There's nothing wrong with the name The Sun Rises or Rising Sun. I mean Japan is known in the West as The Land of the Rising Sun. It's only the flag imagery that's offensive to Chinese and Koreans, not the name itself.

And there are some Japanese traditional art that predate WW2 that use the rising sun imagery but I don't think they're offensive since those art were made waaay before the war and before Japan tried to imperialize Asia. For example, this ukiyo-e print was made in 1869, a full century before WW2: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/f/f0/Lucky_Gods%27_visit_to_Enoshima.jpg/82px-Lucky_Gods%27_visit_to_Enoshima.jpg

In Japan? Sure. In Korea or China? Never.

What about in other places? I remember this article where K-Netz were really upset at an American music artist because he was wearing a shirt with the Rising Sun imagery on it. It kinda gave me the impression that it just might not be okay under any circumstances to them.
