BEYONCÉ didn't win Album of The Year and people think it's institutional racism

Adele stole the show with her triple win – swiping Record of the Year, Song of the Year and the coveted Album of the Year.

There were expectations that Beyoncé’s Lemonade would pick up the award, particularly because of its empowerment of women and its celebration of African American culture.

Huffington Post’s Lilly Workneh called it a “powerful ode to black women everywhereâ€.

Beyoncé’s inclusion of poet Warsan Shire and her use of a Malcom X speech are just two examples of the complex racial issues her album touched upon.

"The most disrespected woman in America is the black woman. The most unprotected person in America is the black woman."

Award shows are increasingly being used to shine light upon the institutional racism that exists in the industry at large. #OscarsSoWhite became the rallying cry for actors of colour who are using their platforms to criticise the industry.

Award-winning actor Viola Davis is an outspoken critic of the lack of diversity in Hollywood, and said there was an absence “in leading roles, if you’re darker than a paper bagâ€.

Now, #GrammysSoWhite has become a vehicle of condemnation.

The fact that Beyoncé missed out on the prestigious Album of the Year is seen by many as proof that institutional racism is alive and kicking.

Others calling the Grammys 'anti-black'

And many pointed out the years artists of colour missed out on the Album of the Year:

Lauryn Hill was the last woman of colour to win the award, in 1999, and Jazz musician Herbie Hancock won it in 2008 - for an album of Joni Mitchell covers.

Adele was, for her part, praised for her acknowledgement of Beyoncé's success:

Not everyone agrees that the Grammys has racist undertones, and some argue that Adele won AOTY simpl because it performed better:

Beehives and their superiority complex. Lemonade was ok but if we're talking about the better deserving album, even Rihanna anti would be ahead of her in that aspect

Adele 25 was the biggest album out. It won it fair and square. Not everything has to do with race

She really was robbed. I hate people saying that Adele deserved it because of how many albums she sold. Okay, then how does that explain Beck winning over Beyonce in 2014? Beyonce outsold him but back then people were talking about ~artistic merit. Now that people are saying Beyonce deserved it because of how raw, emotional, artistic and visually stunning Lemonade was, it's all about sales.

This is not to hate on Adele though. 25 was a solid album. But if we're talking about a critically acclaimed album that served in every way imaginable, you got to give it to Beyonce.

Ah the joys of social media, it allows all of the crazies to feed off of each other. And if it gains enough traction, more people start to regurgitate it like it's true until even politicians and companies start to repeat it.

Tries to bring up institutional racism but their fav not winning her 3902th award is what they talk about....okay. When people think they're so woke but they're sleeping harder than anyone else.

Not to mention:

Critics can offer subjective critiques as quickly as the next person. Even if critics follow a standard of measurement for art, the standard was most likely created by a group of individuals who believed that those particular components of art were most important, so the judgement can still be viewed as somewhat subjective. That's why when a certain art piece that flops, it can still become a classic at a later date. Lastly, the same things that made Beyonce's album critically-acclaimed are the same things that other unknown artists have been providing for years but since Beyonce is well-known, people act as if she is the creator of all things groundbreaking and influential.

Adele's global impact was much bigger than Beyonce's.

I though is was expected Adele to win Album and Song of the Year.

" Institutional racism"  because Beyonce didn't win; what a joke.

Adele's Hello with almost 2 billions views is undeserving to win Song of the Year ...when the entire world anticipated her comeback and listened Hello, the most anticipated song of the year   I haven't listen to Beyonce since 2011.

Honestly, I haven't heard a Beyonce song in years in our radio stations..other than Halo that is. Adele on the other hand had many popular hits here in the recent years and I heard her songs often. Personally I prefer Adele, even though Beyonce's skills are awesome of course. I don't really get this race card in this case, like how can someone like Adele be undeserving of the award?
