Yess the rap battle finale! And Somi won!! And I watched the raw but really know nothing of Korean, but Jinyoung is going to get to something in it, too? Because she did do really, good, too! And I wanted the two of them to do the rap, so hopefully it is a good ending for that. rlytearpls.png

Also... the dreaded school uniforms. Are they wearing them for part of the MV is the question now. xD

I think I heard the word collaboration..? So Somi and Jinyoung both rapping the part while switching maybe?^^

I wonder if they filmed part of the MV in Busan while wearing the school uniforms.

Did anyone else see that post on IG by Hong Jinyoung before she deleted it? I didn't have a chance to translate it, but I think it was referring to the second song... (or possibly, the rap parts).

I heard that Somi won but Jinyoung will rap in the song to support her dream and she will use Somi's lyrics. Sucks to be Maknae sometimes.

It's all kind of hypocritical to me. Somi won fair and square but because Jinyoung's dream is to rap, she gets the rap part. But Sook's dream was to be in the first minute of the song. And then Yewon and Sook got switched. And Sook's dream was not fulfilled. So it's just all kind of "what?why?". And the line distribution? I'm not even going to get into that bc I could go on for days.

It just doesn't make sense.

I think Yewon and Sook switching parts can't be compared to the rap selection. The reason they switched is because Yewon wasn't good for that part. It's not like they switched it willy-nilly, they were forced into doing it. And they choose Sook because she's the only one left who can comfortably sing in that range. For the sake of the song, it was the only option so they had to basically crush Sook's dream. Although I do think that a lot of the choices they made wrt part selection (and even song creation) were for pretty flimsy reasons that are coming to bite them in the butt now.

I agree.

It questions the point of marketing a rap war to the viewers when at the end they chose who is rapping based on who wants it the most. I prefer it to be if they still let Somi do the rap for the recording, and for live performances they sometimes switch it up with Jinyoung's version. For fun, make it so even other members like Minzy (who is a proven rapper) can suddenly rap during one of the performances. We're not even shown how much Somi works on her part while she has to attend other schedules and go to school. At least for season 1, JYP straight up gave it to Jessi who is a pro rapper instead of drumming up the excitement for a rap war. I think Jessi's rap is one of the winner part of the Shut Up song, because her vocal prowess, strength in delivering the rap lines are what makes the song different from most girl groups and what solidifies them as the "Unnies".

To be honest, I'm not a pro rap judge or anything but I love to listen to music including tons of hip hop/rap music. In my opinion, Jinyoung's delivery, despite Jessi's coaching, still sounds pretty flat. Hence, Somi is still the clear stand out in the rap "war" even if hers is a bit standard procedure for girl group rapping. If they are going to make Jinyoung rap for the recording, I hope they push her to do better.

Or they can even split lines in 2 like many girlgroups do

That was my original desire for the rap part, give it to the winner, Somi, while also fulfilling the dream of Jinyoung. But maybe they already gave Somi a lot of time singing already so they want to make the line distribution more fair by giving the rap time to Jinyoung? idk

It does seem silly though, we kind of already knew Somi would win the rap battle since she won the first round, I don't know why they tried to stretch it out when it was the same result the second time, too.

Also ondemandkorea is really taking their time posting the subs today it feels like. I want to understand everything better already

it finally gets subbed and the subtitles are out of sync rlytearpls.png

They are on kshow, yeah. My internet has been particularly sucky of late so ondemandkorea with all it's ads took 5 times longer than usual to show me the episode, including refreshing multiple times, but the sync is right there, so you could maybe use a proxy to watch it if you are region blocked from it for this week? It took so long to get up, too.

They really did do quite well on the 1 vs 100 show, they got more than $20 after all, and the hat one was probably the hardest one for me. And knowing with it was a lyrical or coloratura soprano they were talking about. Never heard  dramatical soprano myself, but you never know what musical terms they are adding as time goes on, haha

But having watched the episode, I understand giving Jinyoung the rap section, but I still think they could have used Somi's rap and then split it between the two of them like Chaeyoung and Dahyun do in Twice. But Somi getting to be a part of the finished product for that and help write the lyrics is an okay solution.

I think Jinkyeong's machinegun method could turn out good with the right working with it, I see where the vocal director is coming from. ahmagahplz.png

So close to the final product, ahh <3 Since they will be promote this at the same time as Twice's new single, I hope Somi gets to interact with them this time.

Watching the v live, I see Evelyn and Somi's dad running around, and from instagram I know her mom is there, too. And is that the female dance teacher in a school uniform too? too fun

It's a variety show. They want to see those who can make the greatest improvements. Period. If it's solely about winning the rap battle. Minzy wins hands down. She could even sings and raps the whole song.. duh..
