journey of flower vs three lives three worlds

So we're almost halfway through the three lives three worlds drama, but for those who also read the novel, you can judge for yourself. I think the two novels have some subtle, or in my case noticeable, similarities. Similarities are: xian xia genre, both heroine are reincarnations of goddesses, both heroine have a relationship with her master, both stories mention peach blossom soup, both heroine have a relationship with a demon god, both heroine are in love with a man, who is emotionless toward everyone else but special to her. In JOF, Bai Zi Hua punished her for collecting the weapons by nailing her, but also accepted half the punishment in her place. In TLTW, Ye Hua punished her for "pushing" Su Jin by taking away her eyes, but also accepted half the punishment in her place. Which drama/novel do you prefer so far?

Read the novels for both.

I personally like TLTW more. It lingered longer in my memory impact-wise plus I was fully invested with how their love developed. By the time the heartbreaks happen, I was so affected because I was already rooting for their love while in JoF, the male lead left me confused at times.

I also read both novels. the novels have different writing styles with different directions. (honestly, both aren't that original. TLTW is a plagiarism. JOF and Chong Zi are like so similar I don't even know how they get away with not being called plagiarized). I do agree that i find myself reading TLTW easier due to its interesting writing style and organization that kept me wanting to find answers. The writing style is very quirky and humorous i.e. her usage of english terms for a seemingly ancient novel. JOF is written by a 16 year old, so the writing didn't have that much character, but i applaud Fresh guo guo for her imagination. JOF is more of a journey of Hua Qian Gu, so it follows a more logical order and the intense builds up over each chapter. The story also has a better flow with less contrived situations. Its climax is better, the punishment, while there's really no climax in TLTW as it hooks us in from the beginning. So just as JOF gets more interesting, TLTW gets more boring. I also like its original ending more than TLTW since I'm a big fan of SE. I would say I like the universe in JOF a bit better than the one in TLTW. As for the drama, I'm a JOF drama bias, so that's no question for me.

Prefer TLTW (even if there were/are plagiarism issues >.<) Just like hoshimax said it was memorable and haunted me for days whereas JOH was just interesting enough for me to read once. TLTW was angsty at the right parts and I am pleasantly surprised they added Pillow Book in the drama, too! Are they also showing FengJiu and DongHua's story? What about MoYuan?

Not that JoF is a boring or anything it's just that there were some parts that I felt dragged on too much and I don't appreciate the drama's ending for it. As much as I love BaiZiHua I don't think he deserved HuaQianGu. Although it might seem that QianGu brought it all to herself since she fell inlove with him after all, I think BaZiHua could have done something about it earlier and avoided all the pain QianGu had to face :( I wish one of the other endings were shown like...her marrying DongFangYu or even an average guy. JoF the novel for me is a 7-7.5/10 where as TLTW: 10MoPB is more 8.5/10.

Dramawise I can't judge yet. I'm loving the costumes of TLTW though!!! And despite Yang Mi's glaring forehead (haha, she said it would be sometime afterward that we'll see it again) I love the styling on the MCs.Dilraba is so, so gorgeous here! I can't wait for that scene where she's wearing red!!! I'm happy to discover Yang Mi's stiff expressions aren't as obvious here (or maybe I've just gotten used to her after Les Interpretes 1/2) and I had my doubts about Mark Chao but he's not so bad, definitely YeHua material. I wish they casted Vin Zhang as DongHua DuJun instead of...him(I forget his name!). When I think of DongHua I imagine Vin Zhang. Maggie is the great SuJin, too. So far I'm pretty satisfied. My Mandarin is improving fast, too. I don't have to pause every 5-6 lines now to check the meanings lol.  I watched a few bts videos of the set and the amount of detail and backdrop they did astounded me.

I prefer 3L3W. It's more engaging, while JOF drags in the middle and has more angst. 3L3W, despite having its angst moments, has a much sweeter ending.

The Pillow book is still my fave though. Hopefully there would be a full TV adaptation for it.

The rights for Pillow Book was sold back in 2014, and a TV series has planned last year. It looks like they are getting ready to film in march of this year, according to their government paperwork.

This is probably the reason why 3L3W couldn't really do the pillow book related plot in much detail or in much accuracy to the novel.

Did they decide on a cast yet?

They are still casting, Jiro Wang or Kris Wu was rumored to play Donghua, but the rumor was from 2014. Since the rights was sold to Liu Yuxin's production company (just as TMPB was sold to Yang Mi's production company), Liu Yuxin will most likely to play Fengjiu. (Liu Yuxin probably will do okay during Fengjiu's incarnation 阿兰若, but I can't see her as Fengjiu in her normal self. Especially since Dilireba did such a good job this round.)

edit: this reminds me, in the opening credits, we did see Dilireba in a red dress with a stern look. I wonder if they'll include the 阿兰若 incarnation in 3L3WTMPB  as well.

Jiro Wang and Liu Yuxin are plastic af. Visual wise, they don't fit.

Kris would suit Donghua but I doubt he would do dramas. Hopefully they get Dilireba and Vengo again, but Dilireba seems busy.

I saw the spoilers on Youtube, but some people commented that it's actually them in the human realm. Who knows? Hopefully they cover the reincarnation part but it seems unlikely since they only get 5mins on avg per episode :(

This is hard.ahmagahplz.png  I choose The Journey of Flower for nostalgia sake, that one drama that made me fell down the rabbit hole that was c-dramas.  Actually, I am just pissed off Mo Yuan isn't the male lead in 10 miles of peach blossom.

Anyway, I hope Bride of the Water God will have a c-drama adaptation.  The casting will be on-point and since it's a c-drama, the set will look gorgeous and lofty as well.

I want the male lead to be Yang Yang!

I just read the wiki info on Bride of the Water God, I doubt that storyline could clear SARFT or find a receptive audience in China. To a Chinese person, the frame story for Bridge of the Water God is basically a mirror story of Ximen Bao Throwing the Witch into the River, except instead of breaking the practice of human sacrifice, it creates a romantic cloak around it. If the Ximen Bao's story isn't so famous, then it may not be a problem, however, that story in the elementary textbooks as the example against cruel practices of superstition and human sacrifice.

Oh man.  I really want a chinese adaptation.  I am not happy with the casting of the korean one.  warstarplz.png

If they can't do a chinese adaptation for Bride of the Water God, at least do one for Cheese in the Trap.  Anyway, I've noticed that you like cdramas like me.  Had you watched Pretty Li Hui Zhen?  Which would you rec more, Li Huizhen or General and I?

I actually have not seen either show, my mom did see General and I and I have glanced a few episodes. The plot seems to be jumpy and some of the camera are kinda weird. There is a lot if CGI when there is no need for ( and they have gotten a lot of flak for this). It would be a drama to watch if I have nothing else to watch.

I don't like the general subject of pretty lu hui hen (or She is Pretty for that matter. I taste for modern dramas tilt toward more realistic ones like Ode to Joy), but others might.

So I have to change my opinion again rlytearpls.png  I like them both but Journey of Flower made me feel more for the characters so I will give it an edge. I cried my eyes out, laughed, and loved the characters.

I don't like Three Lives Three Worlds in a sense that they have a lot of redundant parts especially the drama since they added Feng Qiu and Dong Hua romance in, which was saved for the pillow sequel. The novel itself was less draggy and all over the place, imo. On the other hand, JOF's novel was draggy at the end with the epilogue and the drama did a good job cleaning it up. I actually would have loved it if the drama gave it a full SE, but I'm sure people would have killed Hunan lol

The main stories aren't the same even all the similarities in xian xia  . Both drama are about romance. One is teacher student's  when the other one is noona-romance  3 life times...

I watched and liked both. But 3W3L is something I can't get out and their love (which was mutual) got you deep. Not to mention  their loves in 3 lives are kind of different with all the characters they played ... where JOF is more about the girl repeatedly suffering on her own for her teacher despite many others loves her.... until the last minute.

The biggest difference is, to me, BQ has never chased on the male lead once in her life time as a queen she is and HQG is the exact opposite. She has her life upside down for her teacher.
