I stan the group as a whole because for me it is about music first and then personality. So, if one member behaves like a certified asshole, I drop the group and not merely the member. 

I stan single members only if they show individual talent or extra-ordinary personality - like Jonghyun from Shinee.

I stan for music, so it makes absolutely no sense to like only a portion of a group. I may find some individual members of a group I don't stan captivating or interesting but unless they had a solo music I enjoyed I wouldn't consider that stanning.
