My part's one of the safest in the country, but there are others that are super unsafe to go through, and these days some of the bigger cities are more notable for that. However, it just really depends on where you live. Despite the ignorance of the older generation in my particular state, it's fairly safe, at least for me, at least so far. Hopefully it stays that way. But then back in California my brother got jumped and stabbed in the leg, but that's because he is into drugs and gangs, and it really is a bad area but plenty of people stay safe there. Honestly, there's places all over that's safe and not safe. where in California though because the city i live in in California is among the top 5 safest cities in the nation, and since you didn't say which general area of california your brother was from it sounds like you're writing off the entire state as being a bad area.
