Can autistic people be transgender?

my little brother keeps saying he wants to be a girl.

hes begging for us to buy him a black wig so he can become a girl (we will of course to stop him nagging)

honestly i think its just because he grew up in a house full of sisters that he doesnt want to be left out

he has words but he cant really hold a conversation unless hes telling you what he wants lol

Yes...? I don't see why him being autistic can stop him from being transgender

like hes very autistic,

tantrums

barely talking

only uses words when he wants something

has to go to a special school for autistic people

plus hes going through puberty atm

It could be like you said, but I don't see why an autistic person couldn't be transgender. I have autism, and I'm not transgender, but I definitely wouldn't see a reason that a person with autism couldn't be transgender the same way that someone without autism can. I don't see why autism would counteract that.

idk his autism is so severe he wouldnt be able to have a conversation

but you're right theres probably no way that would affect his hormones

I've always thought the gender is more of a social construct so I can understand why you're wondering. I don't know how a sever autism would affect the development of identity in a person so you should ask a professional as no one in here seems to know what they're talking about.

It's not because he does not speak much that he doesn't have conplex thoughts I mean wtf????

Of course they can be

I don't think it's a matter of developing complex thoughts and correct me if I'm wrong but from my understanding someone with that degree of autism is someone pretty much with no interest at all into socializing. This must alter hugely how they create their own identity as identity it's intrinsically related to culture and the environment.

So I think this girl's theory of him trying to imitate his sisters is a very valid point given his condition and deserves to be examined by a professional in the matter. Developing and forming our own identity is a process that has place through social interactions but it's also something that can be learned and this boy is in an environment in which he's surrounded and interacts mostly with all his sisters, so there's a chance he's learning through the process of imitating them; and while he doesn't have a desire to socialize his family does and in this case is through them that he's been integrated to society and building his identity at the same time.
