Literature classes in college/uni. How to keep up with all the readings?

So this is something that I dread. One of the reasons why I disliked English as a subject is because of all those damn books that you had to read.

Turns out that I have to take 2 semesters of English literature at my college. All professors have the same requirements which is a minimum of 5 books for a 3 month semester! Plus countless articles and excerpts from other books.

The last book I read for an English class was "Just Kids" which is a memoir by Patti Smith about her days as a struggling artist and her relationship with Mapplethorpe. It was an easy read cause it was interesting.

How do you keep up with all the readings as someone who despises to read books?

I skim through them. I'm also a fast reader so it isn't hard for me to keep up with readings, though it does take me longer if a book uses vocab I don't know. And 5 books in a 3 month semester isn't that bad, particularly if they're short novels (less than 500 pages each). I had to read a 1000+ page book on The Tale of Genji for my Japanese Literature class (conducted in English) and that was torture because the writing style was archaic and full of flowery language that I could barely understand. Since my university runs on a quarter system and each quarter is 10 weeks we were given like probably 4-5 weeks to finish that book.

Skim through it or in the worst case look up the summary online

The class is divided into 2 parts; great works of lit 1 and great works of lit 2. The 1st part focuses more on the ancient literature like the greek lit so most of the greek dramas, poems and plays were made into films like The Odyssey for example.

2nd part is most recent. So I'd be able to find movies but my fear is that the prof. is gonna be asking for specific details.
