Article: The surprising 'proportions' of an idol who is actually the shortest in her family

Source: Joongang Ilbo via Nate

Seolhyun is 167 cm which makes her the shortest in her family where everyone is 170 cm+

1. [+492, -19] Height really is all genetics....

2. [+439, -19] The rest of you can exercise all you want and take all the height supplements in the world but you'll never be able to beat pure genetics from family ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹

3. [+342, -13] Both her parents are quite tall too

4. [+21, -9] Her father has such a handsome look to him

5. [+20, -14] My dad is 169 + mom is 151 = I'm 184, little sister 171, little sister 188... genetics?????? I think your lifestyle during your teens matters the most. Making sure you get all three meals, active exercise, sleeping when the sun goes down... The rest of you blaming genetics are the ones who followed the poor lifestyle habits of your parents, which I guess is genetics in a different way too.

6. [+17, -0] Her father looks at least 184 cm

7. [+15, -1] Their whole family hit jackpot by raising one daughter right.. Most parents start by sighing when they hear their kid want to become a singer. Proves that some are just meant to make it...

8. [+13, -5] Height is 100% genetics. Just because you're tall when your parents aren't just means that your parents grew up in a generation without enough nutrition. Their genes are all there, they just couldn't feed it right.

9. [+12, -6] Stop bragging about your height and fill in that empty head of yours...

10. [+10, -2] Honestly the faces of the rest of her family look like regular people off the streets

11. [+9, -1] I always thought Seolhyun had great proportions, looks like it's thanks to her dad.. he's so tall, especially look at those long legs. Even if Seolhyun wasn't a celebrity, just seeing the four of them walk around with their long limbs would be attention grabbing ã…‹ã…‹

12. [+7, -0] Looks like the dad's 184, the person next to him 170, the person next 173

Eh. Legit enough until they started claiming that if you're short, that you definitely just didn't take care of yourself. It can go either way

Genetics play a role , but lifestyle has a part too, my parent considered average, but my grandfather is tall, my grandma is short. I am as taller as my grandfather, my sister short like my grandma. But my sister has pretty face, i'm not, the world is still fair lol.

I smell bullshit from comment #5, lol.

It's genetics, but only one side of your family being tall won't do much. Seolhyun has the height from both sides, so it's actually surprising she ended up under 170cm tall. This happens, but still, see, she's over 165cm. She probably wouldn't be shorter than that.

Wow that family is tall but keep in mind that Idols are generally very small. Seolhyun is 5'5"-5'6" which isn't THAT tall. For example we all see 5'6" girls all the time on the street and it's not like WOWWOWOWOWOW SO TALL.

Many idols are like 5'3" which is under average for the average Korean woman. Idols tend to be small people with small heads and skinny arms and legs so they look taller than they are. So while her family is tall it's not like they are giant freaks. Just tall ppl

Hey, maybe the starvation dieting and lack of sleep from the trainee/idol lifestyle stunted her growth~  :imstupid:

Lmao the majority of height is largely genetics. Just because your parents aren't very tall and you are means nothing, tall height could have been a latent recessive gene. There are plenty of people that follow these "guidelines" and are still short because of their genetics.

Comment #5 tho. Lifestyle matters, but it's all about genetics too.

Have to know your parents' grandparents too. It could be from them.

Lifestyle can only do much. My brother is active in basketball, eat regularly and a lot and always sleep early....but his height is not taller than me that rarely do sports and sometimes not eating breakfast lol
