I'm sure many have heard of Milo Yiannopoulos before, known for giving college lectures about his stance on what many refer to as "PC culture" and other such political grounds, as well as his past and current avid support of current President Trump. Throughout his career doing this as well as posting videos online, he has received no shortage of backlash for his provocative words, and his events have garnered protests on more than a few occasions.

Tonight's is far different than any protest his speeches have sparked before.

Rioters have gathered and have been resorting to destroying public property, aiming fireworks at the building where his event would take place, fires have been set, and Milo and his team were forced to evacuate as the events became life-threatening, not only to him, but to those involved in the rioting. However, this has done nothing to decrease Milo's morale.

It's completely shocking to me how people are to reach to the point of destroying the property of their own campus and threatening the lives of each other in blind rage over some guy giving a speech. Like what is this supposed to accomplish? But it's whatever...

I LIVE IN BERKELEY AND WENT TO THE PROTEST

a large majority of the protesters were trying to prevent these bruhs from doing this dumbass shit, this always happens here

every time there is a protest in Berkeley like it's awesome and a great experience for most of the time, and then when it gets dark out like a small group of idiots fuck everything up

also, this happens literally like every week in Berkeley

EDIT: also please don't try to equate all "left-wing protesters" with these insane Berkeley people, most of us hate these bros too, they're annoying and like do shit that distracts from out message

Make no mistake, this is an attack on free speech

The freedom of speech referenced in the constitution prevents the GOVERNMENT from infringing on people's right to speak freely.

Telling people that they can't organize to speak out and denounce someone that they feel is inspiring hate in people (not saying I agree or disagree) would equally be an infringement on their constitutional right to assemble and protest

edit: also not saying i agree with what these people are doing in berkeley bc they are being anarchists

Even then, I don't see how a guy giving a speech to a small crowd is something worth gathering for in the first place. Just because you don't like what he says doesn't mean you should get your panties in such a twist.

bro it's impossible to tell Berkeley people not to get their panties in a twist, and I'm a liberal and i believe this.

I have no idea why Milo would want to do this shit in Berkeley, what tf did he think was going to happen??

If he really wanted to actually hold a legit meeting and not start a riot, then he should've done it in Walnut Creek, which is over the hills from Berkeley and a significantly more white, republican and suburban community, there would have been no protests, or at least not even nearly as much

What did Milo ever do to anyone? Leave the man alone.

This is an attack on freedom of speech. They all can go and choke on a dick.

Only attempts to silence by government bodies are attacks on the first amendment. Not being allowed a venue without protest is not.

Like those laws saying you can kill protesters and protesters can be charged the "cost" of protest. By republican assembly members.

Maybe hs should stop getting his panties in a twist over the existence of other races?

He is nothing of value.

This is a terrible defense. This isn't about whether or not you support him or what he says! Like him or not, this rioting is still completely stupid and it's not going to accomplish a thing aside from a few buildings burning down maybe.

uhm lmao at people saying it's the students destroying the campus. This is Berkeley we're talking about--liberal and loud as fuck. In my four years there, there was never any destruction no matter what the protest was. The most violent it got was when there was a confrontation between Israelis and Palestinians that were arguing in front of Sather Gate. Even big protests were done peacefully. Obviously these are some dumb fucks that joined the protest just for the sake of fucking shit up for everyone--happens all the time in Oakland.

And Milo can take his right-wing self out of Berkeley too. Still pissed he was even allowed to give a speech there.

This was never intended to be a riot. It was intended to be a peaceful protest. People have the right to protest your views, especially if they feel you are a danger to them.

The issue is that anarchists decided to invade the party and turn it into a straight up riot, or rather, a "riot". This is not the first time they've done this.

This unfortunately seems to be the case for many initially peaceful protests. It's also shocking to see people who stick around and take part in the rioting anyhow. I hope the instigators are brought to justice.

it's UC Berkeley though they always did dumb shits and why even gave Milo a platform to give his horrendous views in UC BErkeley he's not going to get any welcome banner there let alone any peaceful entrance

^this

Milo is BRINGING this violence to campus. It's his fault, his conflict. Campus protesters can get loud and thick, but people do not generally burn down their own campus, in fear of you know... being expelled.

He doesn't give a fuck about anyone, he'll prade his trash ass all over the world until someone gets hurt and then he'll try to be a martyr.

The students should have gone and heard the speech and challenged him in there with statistics and proof. To refuse to engage at all is stupid - it is running away and showing that you're afraid.

Also, Bernie Sanders went to Liberty and gave a speech - the conservative students peacefully heard him out.

Of course Milo would go to a Liberal College to give this speech - why shouldn't he? After all any sort of ideology seeks to gain more followers and convert people following other ideologies. And by this display, UCB just proved the Alt-Right talking point of how Libs are intolerant crybabies.

This was a bad look and the way the Left wishes to not even hear what the other side thinks - this is childish. If you don't know the enemy's modus operandi how will you fight against them properly?

And this 'na na na I can't hear you' behaviour is endemic to Left student politics. Even in India they behave like this - http://www.firstpost.com/entertainment/vivek-agnihotri-buddha-in-a-traffic-jam-jadavpur-university-abvp-left-2779844.html

Oh for fuck's sake. Why should the left be tolerant of hate speech? Why should ANYONE be tolerant of it? I wouldn't give a shit if Milo was preaching about Jesus at Berkeley but I refuse to listen to someone that is a racist, sexist pig.

If the far left wasn't always so violent and determined to shut down everyone else's opinions then I don't think anyone would have a problem with them protesting. They are the ones who want to shut down free speech. It isn't just the far right that they go after either. Even moderate leftists are routinely attacked and vilified by these people the second we disagree with any part of their ideology. Why should we respect their views when they don't respect anyone else's? I agree with most people that Milo is a cunt but let's not act like these people don't target basically... everyone who has a different opinion than them.

A few violent anarchists don't represent the enormous majority of peaceful left-wing protesters the same way the violent anti-government ranchers who walk around with their guns out and have taken over government agency buildings don't represent all right-wing protesters. Right-wing protests don't get reported on nearly as much because the vast majority of republicans are older and live in very sparsely populated areas so of course there are never any large-scale protests that the media would feel obligated to report on.

Also, if you don't think that right-wingers don't do the exact same thing (vilifying others) then you have clearly not watched FOX news or listened to talk radio over the past 20 years, saying that the left is the only ones that do that is just fucking wrong bro

You act like there are never conservative speakers on liberal campuses that don't incite protests against their presence. Maybe instead of trying to compare reactions to Bernie Sanders and Milo, you should get to know those respective figures more. Then you'll understand why Milo gets such vitriolic responses to begin with.

Lets not conflate Milo's views with overall conservative ideology. He is reprehensible to even those on the right. It is protesting beyond ideology when it comes to him; the disapproval is directed at him, for the most part.
