Normal Weekly Assignments?

I'm currently in my 4th week of this semester and idk if it's because I don't manage my schedule properly or if I have too many courses but one of my classes has a teacher who I think believes she teaches the only class we're taking this semester.

She gives us 6+ hours of homework WEEKLY (not counting the studying in there)

This week I had to write a 300 words abstract from a 25 pages long article, a 750 words summary (longer version of an abstract) on a 30 pages long article, an extremely detailed mindmap on another reading (15 pages) and grammar exercises

Is that even a legit amount of work? I have to write abstracts and summaries EVERY WEEK in that class (+ mind map + grammar), and study the material seen in class (which is totally unrelated to the homework), and there's long term project papers to write as well...

I have another batshit cray teacher that gives us even more hw than that one (about 7 hours PER WEEK) for a 2-credit course (the other one's 3).

Am I just whiny or are they completely overdoing it?

Oh sorry, I mean you have such a long work load and if you want to rant, feel free (no sarcasim) I am in college I remember semesters like these.

Lol ok but yeah I think the worst part is I have an internship and seven courses and I'm involved in committees... including the Program Board Committee. But we can't address issues like this now because they're busy talking about money til the end of February so we cannot even hold a meeting.

That sucks, but it reminds me of the AP Euro teacher at my school. She assigns a frick load of work above and beyond what the course requires, gives messy, unhelpful, overloaded lectures, gives little time to complete the work, grades our work like we're history majors with intense background knowledge in modern European history, and shows little sympathy for the students. AP classes are meant to be taught according to the test, NOT according to an actual college curriculum woman.

That's why I dropped the class, not gonna let some teacher get in the way of my GPA and chances at my reach school lol.

I seriously don't understand what teachers get out of giving students so much work?

thing is those 2 classes are linked with my internship (idek how???) so I cannot drop them or I'd have to drop my internship and would be held back by a year program-wise. That baccalaureate is 4 years instead of 3 (normal amount of years here) so it's already hectic enough. I plan to do a master & doctorate so it pisses me off. At least I get good grades but I'm exhausted.

:(

Hopefully things get better for you, the fact that you're doing so much yet getting good grades and still having the time to be on OH is admirable ;)

I took AP World and AP Gov and AP US ~ AP history classes make u retain so much information at a quick pace ><

I know exactly what you are talking about!! The FRQ, & DBQ essays are so precise and you have to correctly answer the prompt without fluffing up significant events and correctly interpret the documents

I had to memorize all the presidents, years, party and that may seem easy but when presidents start dying there is no pattern anymore ugh ugh

A DBQ I did yesterday had 22 documents and I had to use at least 11 in my essay OMG I nearly died

I managed to pull A's in all three by sacrificing sleep and marrying my textbook

I only get 4 hours of sleep from all the primary/secondary reading packets and the chapter readings are at least 20 pages long ~ we go through a chapter every 3/4 days and take the test

Honestly it may seem like a waste of time but history is so interesting for me

You can't learn with negative mindset ><
