A fan account of what Jaejoong said at his concert:

 

I deliberated a lot over whether to do this I've decided to criticize the idol I'm a fan of. I just got back from his concert and during the talking portion, he said this as a joke: "All of you who said boo are the ones with no boyfriends, right? Our country has a low birthrate these days... which means that nowadays, pre-marital pregnancies aren't a bad thing but a blessing. There seem to be a lot of decent male fans here so get their numbers and you know what to do, right? You know what I'm talking about? And this concert hall is near a college campus so there are a ton of (motels) out front." It was personally a moment where my image of him as my idol was shattered. A woman is not a tool for giving birth. Korea's low birthrate is not because of women. The solution to a low birthrate is not pregnancies through one night stands. All of these thoughts made me think that the money I spent on his concert ticket was a waste. It makes me think that if only I was more ignorant to feminist issues, then my fantasies of him would not have been shattered in such a way. However, he's an idol, and he should know the weight of his words to each of his fans. Even if it's a concert hall full of his own fans, his lack of caution with his words has come back as a wound to me.

"Okay I just listened to the audio file (he starts talking about it at around minute 58) and y'all are totally bashing him over nothing lmao.

He said, "I know you guys might not do this but a lot of people around me tell me not to get married," and this was when the fans expressed that they don't want him to get married. So then Jaejoong said, "What? Don't get married?" and the fans said, "Yes!" and then that's when Jaejoong said, "But all of you are getting married and dating!" Then he made fun of fangirls who go to his fansigns and tell him that they've been a fan of his for 10 years but now they got married and had a bunch of kids.

Then he talks about the birth rate going down. He said, "This is your fault. You guys aren't dating because you feel bad/guilty because of me. Don't be like that. Just go! Then come back with your husbands. Then do I have to do a concert for 4 days?(fans cheer) Bring your kids too and I'll do a concert for 8 days (more cheers). I'd prefer for you guys to have kids. You don't have to feel bad/guilty for me. Just have kids. In the past, it was considered bad to have kids out of wedlock. But now that's a really good thing (audience laughs at him). Is that not right?"

Then he talks about how there are a lot of good looking guys in the audience (59:56). He says, "Go with them! (laughs) I'm going to be doing this until late so the nearby universities- (he sounds really shy while saying this part) wait no I'm sorry. I apologize. I'm a good person (jokingly)."

Yikes if this is true. 

 

There's no way he can backtrack on this and say that it was just a joke, that he "didn't mean it that way" because that'll earn him even more criticism and backlash. What he should do is give a proper apology and say that he has no excuses for what he said even if it was a joke.

He has so many sisters yet he's still saying shit like that? I just got reminded of that extremely sexist bulletin that was distributed by the Japanese government some time ago.

 

If you want to raise the birth rate, you have to make it easier to raise children.
