Larme 3,478
I'm 16 years old, and I've always wanted to be a ballerina. Is it too late for me to begin taking classes? Is it also too late for me to dance competitively? I'd appreciate your input, thank you <

VARSITY 3,838
bad news its too late for you too dance competitively to be honest 14-16 is when most dancers start their professional careers. meaning they know everything you have to learn and are excellent at it. good news you can still take ballet classes and enjoy it

ember 8,327
Honestly speaking when I think of ballet, it is ideal for you to start at a much younger age (which is what all girls generally do). It gives you a lot of years to build up skills and technique and flexibility and stamina, by around this age or younger you should be going en pointe. But like, if you reckon you have what it takes to eventually start participating in competitions? ;_; You could always take ballet up as a hobby, too. Miss Buddy 2,847
Are you fat? what is your height? No 16 is not too late but it would have been better if you started earlier.

sakurahanabira 6,634
you won't be able to become a professional ballerina at 16, but you can still join your school's dance team if your school has one or a local dance competition. I remember there being a student of my former high school dance team who started dancing ballet around this age. I think that person later went on to become a dance instructor. And I took my first ballet class at 16, but didn't last long because I got too busy to continue.

deobizone 7,780
never to late to start~! i did irish step dance from when i was 4 until 17 but i felt like i got everything i could from it and moved on to another style that i was interested in, and career-wise was more flexible w/ more options and it's been a few years and i'm doing well. it is optimal to start the style you're going to go forward in, at a young age, but any time you can start is fine. you'll catch up and good luck
