fanfic writters, do you often find yourself re-reading your own fics like you didn't write them?

i've been writing since 2013 and maybe i'm a narcissist or something, but i always find myself going through my old stories and reading them like i'm reading them for the first time, especially since i think i'm a pretty good writer and have some fics that got quite a bit of views. and another part of it might be because i write a lot of my fics to fulfill my own fantasies and i've written things that not many people in those fandoms have written about (pairing and kink wise) so i still enjoy the concepts of what i wrote for that reason.

Yes and I revel in the good parts but I cringe when I come across awful parts lol most of the time I remember struggling writing those

Kinda, til this day I only feel embarrassed that I wrote that, I'm still to write a good fanfic.

I think it's a necessary part, because sometimes I read my old chapters and goes like "wtf when did I wrote that ??"

I do this alot. Sometimes I realize how much Ive grown or changed style wise or like how much better I know a group than when I wrote it. I think it helps show growth. It also makes me wanna do major edit overhauls but most of my stuff has been well received so I leave it.

I do the same thing. Not to sound like a narcissist, but especially returning back to the better pieces of writing after a long time is a nice feeling to me.

I always read my own fanfics and stories but is out of self-consciousness I have to check whether is good or bad lmao.

i mean i TRY to read my fics as if i'm only a reader, but it's too hard for me, i can't see my fics from different angle than the writer's

haha, i read my old fanfics sometimes. I get proud of myself, no lie. i don't write often so it's impressive when I do, even though my fics prob are not that good.
