Why is Jimin some kind of sex worker/victim in 50% of the fanfictions online?

Wtf really!? Gross...

I don't really read fanfictions of real people anyway lol - I mean, they literally exist and that is so unnerving. Fictional characters are fine.

I personally feel I can separate their persona as an idol from who they are as a human being(who I will never know, and don't really want to know)

But that's probably just me rationalizing my own disfunctional behavior.

Because people love stereotypes. So basically in 50% of the fanfictions you'll find:

An intelligent but useless Namjoon

A caring Jin whose sole purpose is to play the "mom" of the group

A cold/emotionless Yoongi

A bright but also kind of useless Hoseok

An "alien"/weirdo Taehyung

A badboy/asshole Jungkook

And a defenceless victim Jimin

Who knows where these clichés came from.

It's fine. I personally am just uncomfortable with how they are being depicted as people that they aren't in reality. And the sex scenes omfg, the sex scenes trigger me, especially when they involve nasty kinks. It's just gross to write them based on a real person.

Not really? I'm pretty sure he's either a high school or college student (if it's AU, not canon) in most fanfics, like the other members...

He isn't though. You must be thinking of like the top 2 (?) fanfics. He's mostly a bubbly dancer, a ray of sushine, etc.

I see these characterizations as well, but the victim/hypersexual thing is still really common, especially in some of the really popular fics.

Ex. House of Cards - pretty much a sex slave with dependency issues and a history of human trafficking/being a victim

trying to behave - human trafficking victim? idk i never read it

Act Natural - some other college au yoonmin fic where he's a pornstar

those first two literally have the most kudos on Ao3 under the Park Jimin tag

House of Cards and Trying to Behave were the fics I was referring to. (In ttb, he put himself into human trafficking ring without thinking it through because he thought his homophobic dad would kill him). And like I said just because those are popular explicit fics, that doesn't represent the majority. Him being hypersexual or a sex victim isn't extremely common. Him being a bubbly, outgoing dancer in high school or college is still #1 by far even in the mature/explicit fics. I can only think of maybe ten decently prominent fanfics that fit the bill (some of the fanfics have the others being hypersexual as well). But at the same time, I'm not seeing what's wrong about the plotline. If you have no trouble separating reality from fiction then?

It's got the most kudos, yes, but that's not 50% of fics like you claimed though? I could probably link 100 college AU fics right now with Jimin as a perfectly normal college student, but I can't name even a quarter of that wherein he's depicted as a sex worker...

There are cases with extremes of course, like as you said, Jimin is depicted as someone hypersexual. Like in HoC, he's a drug addicted sex worker/porn star whose role seems to only sexuall satisfy Jungkook, Taehyung and his "co actors." There are also extremes like Jimin is depicted as someone super innocent or oblivious who can't hurt a fly and has never even kissed anyone. I think both are equally bad and toe the line between artistic license and harmful delusion because it's like he's either a virginal innocent or a slut. But this doesn't just happen to Jimin though, every fanfic about a real person tends to stereotype or put them in a certain box in some way. Like Jungkook is always depicted as this bad boy manwhore with no manners or conscience. It's not just with K-pop idols, it is done to popular actors like the cast of Supernatural or Teen Wolf too.

I've never written a fanfic myself nor can I imagine myself doing so, so I'm not sure what goes on in writers' heads when they write these types of fanfics. Maybe it's a kink or maybe they imagine the actual people playing these roles like in a drama or a movie with this particular plot. Maybe they're telling their own story and they want their favorite celeb to portray them in this story. At the end of the day it's all just fantasies of creative people who are passionate about certain celebs and given free reins to a computer and the internet.

I'm not kink-shaming? I'm talking about when people choose to project kinks on REAL people. That's nasty. Write fictional characters how you wish, but it's undeniable that when real people happen to read those kind of FanFictions about them, they feel very uncomfortable.

That comment was meant as a joke, but you literally wrote "And the sex scenes omfg, the sex scenes trigger me, especially when they involve nasty kinks".

Just curious, do you think it's wrong to write sexual scenes that are based of off real people altogether or is it just when it involves kinky acts that you consider it to be wrong? What difference does it make if the boys likes to get spanked, choked and pissed on or just enjoys some good ol' vanilla kissing and face to face sex in the fic? Implying that having kinks or being involved in BDSM is something dirty and disgusting that should be hidden behind closed doors is wrong. Sex is sex regardless of how you choose to spice it up while having it.

Edit: If you don't like it don't read it, it's that simple. I happen to thoroughly enjoy reading kinky sex, so I read a lot of it. At the same time I hate AUs, especially coffee shop Aus because I find them cheesy and cringey, so I read none. Why would you look up things that make you uncomfortable? Just avoid it. You can't generalize people like you do, just because you don't enjoy reading kinky sex doesn't mean that no one will. It's obvious that the writers that write that kind of fic have an audience or else they wouldn't post it. You're not those writers audience and that's fine, but don't go around being bitter and complain about it, just read whatever fanfiction that makes you happy.

I'm not sure you're comprehending my original comment at all. First you 'joke' that I'm kink-shaming, and now you're asking me if all sex scenes trigger me or only with kinks.

It baffles me how you can write so much but not even put thought into what I wrote. I clearly said "the sex scenes trigger me." Then I followed that up with how the sex scenes trigger me ESPECIALLY when they involve kinks projected onto real people. I'm obviously talking in the context of it being based off real people altogether.

FFS - for the last time, I am saying that I'm not for writing kinks into REAL people. Stop assuming things, for gods sake. I have not said that kinks themselves are disgusting, I have not said that anyone with a kink is nasty. I have not said that someone can't indulge in their kinks while they have sex. I have not said that indulging in kinks means sex isn't proper sex.

And ok. Look. I'm actually confused AF. Wtf is it with you and putting words into my mouth!?

Since when have I looked it up? I've seen it before, and naturally I do avoid it now. When did I say that no one else enjoys it? Why am I suddenly bitter & complaining just because I made a few comments detailing my opinion, on an appropriate thread? Since when did I go around doing that?

And finally, I read lots of FanFiction on fictional characters that I like, of which makes me very happy and satisfied - some of which have kinks in them. So thanks for the sentiment, but no thanks.

If you still can't comprehend what I'm saying and keep on going on about how I'm desecrating all kinks, I guess I'll do us both a favour and block you. No hard feelings, but this is a waste of time.
