Ha:tb 816
Question: How does the youth in your country usually behaves online/offline? So recently, I've notice that kids and teens in my country, from 10 to 18 years old, have been behaving in a really worrying manner and taking over the online community. These kids joke and make memes about literally EVERYTHING, even murder and rape cases, arguing that they're doing it to piss off moralist people (the typical troll behavior, you could say). The amount of these kids and their online presence is OVERWHELMING and I'm starting to worry about this new generation. There's a serious problem of insensitivity and normalization of violence in the youth. Few days ago, a 15 years old opened fire on his classmates and teacher. People are shocked cause it's the first time something like this happens in my country, and the media started to say that this kid's online activity, was similar as the state above. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/18/world/americas/mexico-school-shooting-monterrey.html?_r=0 https://www.buzzfeed.com/josehernandez/this-is-what-we-know-about-the-facebook-group-that?utm_term=.qimE71N4x#.gpPDvO4AM (the issue I'm talking about) I know preteens have never been the most intelligent people, but I only see this kind of behavior in my country (and some other parts of Latin America and maybe Spain). So yeah, maybe, the sociocultural context also has to do with this. What do you think about this problem?

Well they behave pretty much the same inside and outside, wich is not necessarily a good thing, but I blame it to education, because no matter how much exposed you are to violence if you have a context where to put it, it won't affect you, it depends of the family and the educational system itself, although there are studies that shown that people who are exposed to violent content tend to assimilate it as if its normal

And yeah, I agree, it also depends on the criteria and how you interpret the violent content. Thanks for answering (:

And even worse when you're exposed to that kind of content since a very young age, I think.
panda 220
It's easier to act like a dick when you're anonymous, that applies to people of all ages. It's easier to not feel empathetic when separated from an issue by distance or a computer screen; it doesn't seem as real. Most of these kids wouldn't dare say this sort of stuff irl or if it was happening to people close to them. Unfortunately, the internet tends to bring out the worst in people.
