For example, if you haven't seen them after a while, and when you do see them by coincidence, they seem shocked/happy to see you, and they just watch you and stare/smile. You could try sending subtle signals to him whenever he tries to be flirtatious, but be careful not to come off as cold and spiteful i guess. I don't think it really matters because as long as some guys knows you've really liked him, they will always use this to their advantage. Even if they don't want to date their mentality is like well I can still flirt and be physically attracted to you smh. So he might not like you but he do enjoys the idea of you liking him or at least is what I would think of someone acting like that. A girl once did something like that after realizing I liked her, at first she didn't told me anything at all so I leaved it that way and tried to move on. It's so annoying because clearly when you are trying to move on, they act like there is something there when it isn't. When you're the only person being honest it's emotionally draining. I've also done the same thing by keeping my distance. I think people like that just enjoy the attention.
