If Red Velvet's Comeback was like Super Junior's "Sorry Sorry"?

Imagine the slayage if their February comeback was like Sorry Sorry.

The Sorry Sorry formula:

1. Public friendly electronic track, not too experimental in terms of production, gets everyone feeling like they wanna bust a move

2. Super catchy chorus

3. Iconic choreography that stands out and the audience themselves can learn it as well

Red Velvet would just have to tweak a few things to get it to work for them e.g brighter colours to fit with their "Red" side. I honestly believe if they did something like this, they would have their big break. Yeri and Irene can lead the dancing, Seulgi can give us the dance + vocals we deserve, Joy won't be out of her element because her light, sweet tone fits well over the electronic instrumental, and Wendy can take the cake with a high note at the bridge.

Sorry Sorry is legit a timeless track imo in terms of Kpop dance songs.

I want red velvet's comeback to be original and sets their own style

I know, I do too, but realistically, SM probably won't do that. Although Red Velvet is marketed as a "unique, quirky" girl group, this is Kpop and while artistic creativity is nice, we want our girls to succeed and get South Korea's recognition, because if they don't cement their place as a Top New Girl Group among the likes of Twice, GFriend and Blackpink, there could be another f(x) situation in our hands unfortunately and they will be left as what I like to refer to a "filler group", kept only because they provide another source of income for the company. Don't be discouraged if their comeback isn't to your tastes or doesn't fit what Red Velvet stands for, because more than likely, the rest of their album tracks will probably be more their music style. A public friendly single is what they need.

well, impossible or not, I just hope they will finally have songs that have the same impact as Sorry Sorry or Gee

no more OOTN vibes pls, my girls deserve better

Agree wholeheartedly. OOTN was a lovely track, one of my personal favourites, but it's definitely a type of song that should be kept as an album filler or some kind of B-side. I may be pushing here, but I believe SM knows when to pull out the magic hands and create an iconic song. When SNSD debuted in 2007 they were like Red Velvet currently, they were known (but not idolised) to the public and had moderate success, but nothing compared to Wonder Girls' "So Hot", "Tell Me" and "Nobody". People criticised them and said they were just trying to catch a bit of WG's success. When they dropped "Gee" in 2009, it was a symbol of SM taking initiative against their competition and WG was, to put it dramatically lol, murdered.

ok i love you for saying this T____T I'm a pessimistic rv stan and what you said is encouraging

sometimes I do think that red velvet has always meant to be a filler group, sm knows what are the terms needed to make a national gg and it doesn't seem to be red velvet: their age gap is too big, they are not a big girl group and compared to girl groups of the same generation they are too old. not saying that it's impossible but it's definitely hard

but then I think russian roulette makes sm realise that rv does have the potential to reach a higher status and therefore they decided to give them a real push!!! I remember yeri and joy saying that they have already hear russian roulette and another b side back in their trainee days, so I guess russian roulette was only meant to be a bop whereas the upcoming one is probably "the song", like growl and cheer up?

I'm glad I could help you feel a bit more positive about their comeback. It's hard, and I'll admit the other girl groups put up a fierce competition.

About the filler group thing, I think, initially SM knew that was their place. RV debuted at a very weird time in Kpop, it was the end of the Hallyu wave, yet groups that are considered the "New Generation" hadn't debuted yet. The competition from the previous years was over, and there was no new competition either. I think it was a marketing tactic just to bridge the gap between SNSD (who would be on their last years as a group) and White Fox in 2018. Just bring in more money, ya know?

Everyone says RV is destined to become like f(x) with poor promotions, less than ideal sales and a lack of public recognition - and up until now, it seemed like that was the path. No matter what f(x) did, they could never breakthrough. I think f(x) wasn't a filler group at debut - they were meant to appeal to consumers who liked experimental, original music and concepts, perhaps even SM's answer to 2NE1's unique fierce concept. But as time went on, they became a filler group. With Russian Roulette, RV has shown that they have the potential to make it to the top. RV is what SM intended f(x) to be, not what f(x) became.
