Btw linca is a fighter which means that gender based class are now gone. Also tsubaki was confirmed a Pegasus knight tumblr_inline_nnkt8saUGc1r44ffy_540.png

we still dont know if its a female or male but im leaning more towards male tbh

If he is male, it would be the first male Pegasus Knight in the entire series (besides a couple enemy units in the third FE game).

FE: if is confirmed to be amiibo compatible! (But good luck getting your hands on FE amiibo)

ykxRrlR.jpg

On the official Japanese website, the box art for the games has been updated to include the amiibo logo indicating that they will have amiibo functionality.

source: http://www.nintendo.co.jp/3ds/bfwj/index.html

Note, Marth and Lucina are already confirmed for unlockable DLC through trading card game codes. So maybe the amiibo are an alternate way to unlock those characters? Or they could be for other bonuses like items or weapons.

loool I didn't see 22 Jump Street but still, I die!

Speaking of! This cracks me up whenever I see it

QMXCCFc.jpg

haha Chrom must be a really easy-going guy to let that slide.

The more I hear about If, the more excited I am to play.

I made Avatar x Lucina and Chrom x Sumia support each other in my first playthrough. Sumia is okay, I just find her very two dimensional. She doesn't seem to have much going for her besides the clumsy thing. So I found a lot of her supports boring.

Loool. On my first playthrough, whenever I thought about how Lucina was a baby in the current timeline, it really weirded me out.

To be fair, Sumia has 2 things going for her (clumsy and loves animals) whereas some other characters are even more 1-Dimensional - like I mentioned earlier with Gaius' candy obsession or Miriel's nerdiness.  :hurr:  Too bad I seldom used Sumia because I'm horrible at managing Pegasus Knights. They're useful for moving far across the map quickly but they die too easily.

English subtitles/translated lyrics for the song Aqua sings in the "if" trailer

Also, it's confirmed that the game is rated 15+ in Japan, instead of 12+ like Awakening is. I doubt that means much but maybe it hints at a darker, more mature storyline? Or could just be Camilla's boobs. lol

I have all the TLoZ amiibo, but I haven't gotten any FE amiibo since I only played Awakening. I'll be sure to pre-order Lucina and Robin, though.

I actually never played with Miriel. And Gaius was endearing in a way, though I agree his candy obsession got boring pretty quickly.

I tried to get most of my female characters to get galeforce to pass on to their children, so I think I got pretty good with handling flying classes. I'd make note of all enemy units with bows and make sure they either stayed clear of their range or attacked them before they could attack my pegasus knights/dark fliers etc. Or sometimes I'd use them to carry another character where I needed, and then switch the characters so they would be safe from any bows. That was pretty useful for missions like Twin Wyverns in Awakening, where you need your units to travel really far but there were a lot of enemy units with bows.

Good luck getting them! They've been selling like hot cakes.

I only used Gaius until I got Anna and then I ditched him, although looking back on it, two thieves could have been helpful in some missions.

Those are smart strategies. Props to you and snsdJM for getting Galeforce  :raep: None of my kids had it

I have the Ike amiibo

jBgXNPi.gif

So he betta be DLC

slay same all my children got galeforce :hoplz: . Still irked by gerome not being able to get galeforce

I never got the gaius hype in japan, he isnt that strong, his personality is only about candy and he aint even cute but then again most guys in fe:awakening were meh minus the holy 5 inigo, gerome, lonqu, chrom and owain. Though i also have s oft spot for yarne due to liking him with lucina i didnt care much for either separately yet the pairing makes me like them more since he is sucha  puss in look for someone to protect him and she is a bad ass with a soft side for the bunny

Ooh lucky! Ike is one of the rarest amiibos. I'm jealous.

I was extremely fortunate (online at the exact right time) and managed to get a pre-order in for Lucina and Robin amiibos but many people's pre-orders for them have been cancelled due to short supply so I'm not getting excited until I have the actual amiibos in my hand. Still no idea what their function will be in the game tho.

I got my sister a Marth amiboo, she lovess Fire Emblem, she was actually the person to introduce me to that series with PoR/RD.

It was sold out so I had to get her one for £20~ =/ It was Christmas and she really helped me out with something so I was feeling generous lol I should've gotten her Ike as that's her fav lord, but alas, he wasn't out yet~

I don't have any FE amiboo's for myself though lol and stupid Nintendo with it's under stocking just exhausts me.

I hope the function for the amiboo's isn't too big, I don't like amiboo's being used as way to unlock important game mechanics, locking big things out of games and in a £15 paywall grates on me, even if I have/want the amiboo.

I think they'll prob do the same thing Codename S.T.E.A.M did though and just allow you to use those amiboos as units in the game.

Your sister is blessed to have such a saint for a brother.

yeah but its mainly due to my love for ike and por/rd so as soon as he was out i was like getting him. Im thankful i did that since now he is so rare to get but since if is going to support im pretty sure they are going to restock they must have to

I dont like robin or lucina enough to want an amiibo of them, i only buy amiibos of the character i really like such as ike, link, zelda, sheik

the only other amiibo i really want atm is zero suit samus so i cant wait for her to be out

I know for sure Marth will be re-stocked later this year since Nintendo confirmed it when talking about Codename STEAM but idk if/when we'll get a restock for Ike.

Since step brought it up how did you all got acquainted to the fire emblem series

For me i used to sometimes buy games that looked cool even if i knew nothing about the game itself and one day i went to a game store and there it was Path of Radiance i legit knew nothing about the game but the cover looked cool and the back looked intriguing so i just went ahead and bought it on a hunch and boom as soon as i played it i loved it. the strategy thing rpg really made me like it since i think i have a thing for rpg's lol

But yeah i used to sometimes buy games that just looked cool that made me discover some great games such as fire emblem por and tales of symphonia.Though it has also me turn up on some crappy ass games -cough-pokemon battle revolution so much regret when i bought that game and i bought pretty recently as it was out so it was like 40-50 dollars total waste of money

Wow, your story is pretty much the same as mine except my experience was with the first Game Boy Advance game. Saw it in a magazine advertisement, thought it looked cool/anime-ish, and got it for Christmas 2003. Turns out we were both right for judging a game by its cover

Of the games you have played of fire emblem who is yout top male and female

Por; Ike and Ilyana

RD:Ike and Ilyana

Awakening:Tharja/Olivia and Inigo

Fire Emblem 7: Lyn and Raven

Shadow Dragon: Shiida and Horace

FE7 Blazing Sword: Canas and Lyn

FE8 Sacred Stones: Joshua and Lute

FE11 Shadow Dragon: Nabarl and Minerva

FE13 Awakening: Lon'qu and Maribelle

I think it's obvious that I like Myrmidons  :derp:  imo FE7 had the most likable cast as a whole but Awakening comes close.

I still haven't gotten round to playing PoR, but I want to play that next.

Good luck getting a copy! eBay scalpers made it really expensive. Nintendo needs to make it available on the Wii U Virtual Console so more people can enjoy it.

best game ever!!!

I agree.

Thanks to Serenes Forest, I have 2 news items to report:

1) The character who looked like a Blonde Marth from the "if" trailer has been revealed to be called Prince Leon.

f8cv5B7.jpg

2) Shouzou Kaga, the original creator of Fire Emblem, is making a new game and is recruiting volunteers to help on it. If you don't know, Kaga left Nintendo to make his own games but then Nintendo sued him & won because they were similar to Fire Emblem. I hope this new game is a hit! More info about the game here: http://serenesforest.net/2015/05/06/shouzou-kaga-developing-fan-game-srpg-studio/

2I9DYxX.jpg

i saw that copies for PoR go for like 500 dollars, here i still have my copy intact :hoplz:  in its box, with the booklet and the CD all original but obviously played and open

Lucky you. That makes you richer than everyone else in this thread  :stud:

oh prince leon nice name,i like his hoshido counterpart more but he looks cool

did kaga work on fe tellius?

and ikr, im glad i never lent my FE games to my cousins otherwise they would be all lost or broken like my other gamecube games

I like the Hoshido designs more because they're more unique and interesting compared to the plain Nohr costumes. But I still prefer Nohr overall due to the "darker" and "more complex" story with harder difficulty.

Kaga designed Fire Emblem 64, a game intended for the Nintendo 64 but was never released and instead turned into Path of Radiance. Here you can see an early version of Ike from the cancelled FE 64:

Some big FE: if news from the latest issue of Famitsu
http://www.siliconera.com/2015/05/12/fire-emblem-if-adds-easier-modes-and-no-longer-has-limited-weapon-usage/?onswipe_redirect=never

TL;DR:

  • Royal characters can alter the map terrain with a Dragon Pulse ability
  • There will be an easier mode called “Phoenix†mode that revives fallen units on the turn after they die so playing Nohr won't be impossible
  • Normal, Hard, and Lunatic modes are still in
  • There's 9 save slots but if you get DLC that number will increase, AND...

last but not least... [drumroll]
No more weapon durability! All weapons are unlimited!
tumblr_inline_n23qs61R1j1rbc7oc.gif

A lot of "elitist" fans are upset by this but I'm more than fine with it. Having more game modes like Phoenix isn't a bad thing. It's just more options to pick from. And now I don't have to beat the game without touching any of my best weapons because I was always "saving them for later"

Sorry to double post but I want to keep last post for the new mechanics and this post for story/character-related things.

One of the pages has a super-blurry blurb about Hoshido and Nohr's ties to dragons--in particular, there's a mention of them worshiping some kind of dragon, a Divine Elder Dragon or something. It seems to suggest both of the royal families have dragon blood.

You can't customise skin colour? Aww =/

Probably not. The avatar is related by blood to the Hoshido side so it wouldn't really make much sense if (s)he was a different tone than them. They could compensate by adding characters with more diverse skin tones like Basilio, Flavia, and Panne had in Awakening.

NEW "if" CHARACTER BIOS:

- Marx (Paladin / CV. Konishi Katsuyuki)

Amongst Nohr's royal family, he is the eldest son. Although taciturn, he has an honest personality. For the sake of the kingdom, he follows his father's -- the king's -- intentions (?) .

 - Camilla (Revenant Knight / CV. Sawashiro Miyuki)

Nohr's eldest daughter. She dotes on her younger brother/sister (the protagonist) to the point where she'd be more than willing to kill someone for their sake.

 - Leon (Dark Knight / CV. Miyano Mamoru)
Marx's younger brother. Unlike his older brother, he excells at magic. He's a genius who can flawlessly handle anything.

 - Elise (Rod Knight / CV. Suwa Ayaka)

The youngest child amongst Nohr's royal family, with an innocent personality. Despite not being related by blood, she's just as close with the protagonist as she is with her real siblings.

 - Ryouma (??? / CV. Nakamura Yuuichi)

On top of being Hoshido Kingdom's eldest son, he is also the protagonist's real brother. He is full of samurai spirit and has an extremely reliable presence.

 - Hinoka (Pegasus Warrior / CV. Nazuka Kaori)
Hoshido Kingdom's eldest daughter. She began training as a pegasus warrior after the protagonist was kidnapped by Nohr Kingdom.

 - Takumi (Archer / CV. Kaji Yuuki
Ryouma's younger brother. In order to obtain other's recognition of his own strength, he has been perfecting his martial arts. He has a somewhat suspicious personality.

 - Sakura (Shrine Maiden/Priestess / CV. Kanemoto Hisako)
Ryouma, Hinoka, and Takumi's younger sister. Unlike the other three, she's shy and timid.

cr: sforzur @ SerenesForest

Eh, that makes sense, I just thought it was kind of an odd omission in the last game so they'd def have it this game. I wanna make my brown avatar ;O;

The rest looks great though! I can't wait to see what the 3rd more ~adult version of the avatar looks like

Adult female ava was my fav design last game

latest?cb=20120222225029

Tho that hair looks fug in this pic

About the no more weapon durability, I...never actually cared to much for that, I always had more than enough weapons, but yeah I NEVER used the legendary weapons for fear that I'll need them later! Thing is though, I always got along fine with just the basic Iron/Steel weapons what have you, I wonder how they'll balance they more broken super weapons...

Yes, that was the best Avatar in Awakening although my favorite hairstyle was

cFmv9ZS.jpg

You're totally right about the basic weapons being sufficient. You could give any magic wielder the basic versions of Fire, Wind, or Thunder and they'd still slay. There wasn't a need for the "El-" or "Arc-" versions.

HQ scans of the latest Famitsu magazine pages about FE: if including new screenshots and artwork

http://imgur.com/a/ulju3

The full English translation of the interview with the developers

https://kantopia.wordpress.com/2015/05/13/fire-emblem-if-famitsu-developer-interview-5132015/

A few translated tidbits:

  • Aqua, the blue-haired dancer/singer from the trailer, is the Songstress class. She can attack with lances and also dance to give other units an extra action.
  • Aqua was originally the princess of Nohr but she was taken prisoner by Hoshido. So Hoshido isn't as perfect and moral as we were led to believe. This adds a layer of depth and mystery.
  • When initiating an optional battle in the Hoshido route, players can select from a list of locations, such as a suspension bridge, mountainside village, royal capital plaza, grasslands and a fortress. This could be a sign that Hoshido doesn’t actually have a traversable world map like Awakening had. There could just be a “world map-like†system where players could train outside of missions.
  • A new character we haven't seen yet:

looks like there will be more of a focus on abilities, I'm interested to see how that plays out

Why do you think the maids are going to suck?

And yes, she very cute =}

I just figure they're going to be like dancers with low defense since both archetypes are frail girls. Hopefully I'm wrong.

I love that we're getting all this new info before release date. Here's some more news and character info/portaits from the latest Famitsu. The dark mage Nyx reminds me of Tharja because of the head ornament but I like the veil. Oni looks cute with her darker skin tone and somewhat tribal gear. I can't wait to try out the new ninja class with Suzukaze. The blonde "Brave Hero" character looks like he'll be similar to Vaike with a cocky attitude.

Fire Emblem if Famitsu 21st May Details

After yesterday’s relatively well-received Famitsu leak, comes the actual magazine itself (in digital form, at least). Like last time, the leaks revealed most of the important details, so be sure to check the previous news post if you missed that.

famitsu2105-spread-300x183.jpg

Thankfully, all of the information in the leaks turned out to be true–nothing too surprising considering the sites that leak information are probably very cautious not to ruin their credibility.

However there was one “tiny†error, which I quickly corrected, but many other sites–English or Japanese–weren’t as quick to fix. I’m, of course, referring to Gunter’s amusing “Great Butler†class, which was a typo of the more logical “Great Knightâ€.

So R.I.P. Great Butler. (For now, at least.)

felicia-battle1-300x179.jpg

Felicia about to knife a Nohrian soldier.

For the new information, let’s first continue from one of the hot topics from yesterday: Maids, Butlers and the new weapon type “Hidden Weaponâ€, which can be equipped by both classes, as well as Hoshido’s Ninjas.

As reported, Hidden Weapons sit alongside Lances in the revamped weapon triangle and are good against Swords and Magic, but weak against Axes and Bows. Their particular niche is the ability to temporarily decrease enemy stats. We now know they are 1~2 range weapons as well.

In some screenshots, Felicia–of the Maid class–can be spotted finishing off enemies with an “Iron Hidden-Weapon†(I’m tempted to “localise†this as “Iron Knife†so it’s easier to read) or healing with staves. Likewise, Butlers can equip Hidden Weapons and Staves too.

Interestingly, from Felicia’s Level, stats and skills, it seems likely that Maid (and Butler, its male equivalent) is a promoted class. So perhaps the answer to “what will Maid or Butler promote to†is simply a boring “they don’t promoteâ€. Once again, R.I.P. Great Butler.

feif-ninja-battle-300x180.jpg

Famitsu: Obscuring names so you don’t have to!

Ninjas meanwhile are locked to Hidden Weapons, although they have better attacking abilities than Maids and Butlers, most likely. The Ninjas we see–Suzukaze and a Fuuma Soldier(?)–are equipped with Iron and Steel Shurikens, the Hoshidan version of Hidden Weapons.

Of interest, Suzukaze’s Iron Shuriken boosts his Speed by 2, while reducing his enemy’s Magic by 2, Defence by 3 and Resistance by 3 until the next turn. The enemy’s Steel Shuriken also seems to boost Speed by some unknown amount.

Perhaps what differentiates Hoshido’s Shurikens between Nohr’s plain Hidden Weapons is their Speed boost and presumably lower Might (or other stat). This would parallel Hoshido’s Naginatas having less Might than Nohr’s Lances, but providing a Defence and Resistance boost.

Next, let’s talk about the characters we didn’t know about before or couldn’t get a good glimpse of.

feif-nyx-status-300x225.jpg

First we have a female Dark Mage called Nyx, who was actually mentioned at the end of yesterday’s leak. The only other details we know about her is that she can equip Fire and Fimbulvetr tomes and can at least promote to a Sorcerer.

dengeki2005-3-300x190.png

Left: Sorcerer. Right: Brave Hero.

Moving away from Famitsu for a bit, the latest issues of Dengeki and Nintendo Dream also come out on the 21st. Sadly, Nintendo Dream apparently doesn’t have any new information, but Dengeki has a few images we haven’t seen in Famitsu so far.

On the left image, we see Nyx as a Sorcerer and, on the right, an unnamed Brave Hero (read: “Heroâ€). Other than the Hero’s ridiculous(ly amazing) expression, classes apparently have a base stat for Luck, which they’ve lacked in previous games.

(Not exactly important, but the spell-casting effect no longer conjures Tellius’s ancient text, like it did in Awakening, instead summoning something closer to runes or European symbols.)

dengeki2005-2-300x198.png

Left: Oni. Right: Priestess

Also in Dengeki, we finally get a proper look at Linca (or Rinka), the female Oni who appears frequently in screenshots and video.

On the right, we have the Avatar’s Hoshidan little sister, Sakura, in her default Priestess class. Speaking of Sakura, a screenshot of her inventory has her holding a “Spring Festival†healing baton.

That’s pretty much everything, but are two more small(?) observations.

One, the Avatar seemingly doesn’t have access to his/her dragon-transforming ability all of the time. In the batch of screenshots showing the Avatar’s inventory, he is still in the Dark Prince class, but his Dragonstone rank is missing for some reason.

feif-tsubakivsclan-300x180.jpg

Naginatas prevail over Katanas.

Two, you must have noticed by now how Hoshido has an eastern-themed version of all of the present weapon types: Katana (Sword), Naginata (Lance), Mace (Axe) and Baton (Staff).

So far we don’t know exactly what the Hoshidan version of magic tomes are (probably related to talismans), but we do know they have Yumi(asymmetrical bows) instead of Bows.

Character profile translations by Kirokan on SF Forums

Felicia

Class: Maid / Voice: Sasaki Nozomi

A capable (?) maid who serves the protagonist's every need within the Kingdom of Nohr. Though she has a brave personality that fights to the end, she is rather careless and makes plenty of mistakes. She is an ally no matter what side you choose.

Joker

Class: Butler / Voice: Suwabe Junichi

Just like Felicia, he is a butler who serves the protagonist in the Kingdom of Nohr. He is an ally no matter what. On top of being great at housework and other chores, he is an excellent fighter. He is unsociable and hard to talk to for anybody who is not the protagonist.

Gunther

Class: Great Knight / Voice: Naya Rokurou

A Knight who has served the Kingdom of Nohr for a long time who made his name on distinguished service in the past. He serves the protagonist in his travels, aiding in fights and training. He has a strict, yet kind personality.

Suzukaze

Class: Shinobi / Voice: Ono Daisuke

He comes from a long line of Shinobi that has served the Hoshido for generations. Suzukaze himself does not serve any particular master. In contrast to his older twin brother Saizou, he is a polite and calm young man.

Saizou

Class: Shinobi / Voice: Shingaki Tarusuke

He pledges allegiance and is under the direct command of one of the central character of the story: the prince of Hoshido, Ryouma. A complete change from his brother Suzukaze, he has a personality that is hot blooded and can suddenly become fired up.

Kagerou

Class: Shinobi / Voice: Murakawa Rie

A "kunoichi" who serves Ryouma. Initially her class is Shinobi. She often works to restrain the reckless Saizou. Together with Saizou, she is a character that becomes an ally on the "Hoshido" path.

yeah and damn the amount of staff users on this game tbh

the two maids, the butler, sakura, elise

thats like 5 thought at this point its looking like butlers and maids are the better option since they can also attack

like why use a priestess that can only heal when you can use a maid that can both attack and heal

You can never have too many healers ;)

Quotes from each character:

Sakura: "The citizens of this kingdom are all good people."

Hinoka: "Even if the situation is unfavourable, as Hoshido's princess, I'll show you how I can fight until the bitter end."

Takumi: "I'm arrogant...? That's because I don't trust either of the two of you."

Ryouma: "As your brother, I'm proud of you all. As long as you're here, nothing can scare me."

Camilla: "It's alright. As for everyone who dared to bother you, I'll kill them all."

Marx: "Your power shouldn't be used as something like this. Stand, gripping your sword, as a soldier of Nohr."

Leon: "Honestly... Your swordsmanship doesn't determine the entirety of your strength, brothers."

Elise: "I'll do my best with you, too. If I do, surely father will forgive us."

Aqua: "I am Aqua. I'm Nohr Kingdom's princess... or was, rather."

cr: sforzur

I love that we're already getting to see glimpses of their personalities. Based on Elise's quote, I think it's pretty much confirmed the Nohr campaign will have the characters going against their dad, the Nohr King, in order to reform the kingdom and make it better. LOL @ Takumi being so stand-offish.

Thanks for sharing. Aqua is so beautiful. I honestly did not expect she would be the princess of Nohr kidnapped by Hoshidol. I thought she would be a Hoshido princess that was kidnapped by Nohr. Nice surprise. I think she and Kamui will help to bring peace between the kingdoms regardless of which version you play.

Newest info from the latest Famitsu interview with the "if" developers

  • The cutscenes will be from the first-person perspective of your avatar character Kamui.
  • Even in Phoenix mode, you can lose if you fail to meet victory conditions, such as reaching a destination within a certain number of turns.
  • Attack Stance and Guard Stance is the new version of Awakening’s Dual and Pair Up systems.
  • Attack Stance (where fighting adjacent to an ally allows for that ally to perform a follow-up attack) is fantastic for improving your damage output, but it doesn’t really help your units when enemies decide to gang up on them.
  • Guard Stance is where 2 allies combine into 1 and 1 of the allies can deflect enemy attacks. It's good for absorbing a lot of enemy attacks. Basically, players are encouraged to adopt different stances according to the given situation.
  • Javelins, hand axes, and other similar weapons (but not naturally ranged weapons like Tomes or Hidden Weapons) can no longer double attack. It's going to be even trickier to use Pegasus units now, especially since arrows are now effective against lances. lol
  • The red-haired Pegasus rider is confirmed to be a boy!
  • The classes available largely depend on the campaign chosen. So in Nohr, you will typically see more characters in familiar classes, like Cavaliers. While in Hoshido, most of the characters are in Japanese-themed classes, like Samurais.
  • The weapons you can obtain depend on the campaign too. For example, in Nohr, you will commonly obtain “swordsâ€, while in Hoshido you are more likely to find “katanasâ€, which have slightly different properties.
  • Hoshido is based on ancient Japanese culture, while Nohr is built on the series’s traditional Western fantasy setting. While Nohr is Western-themed, it also carries a dark atmosphere; its castle even stands in the middle of a giant hole in the ground. In terms of the setting, Hoshido is a pacifist kingdom with exceptional peace and order. In contrast, Nohr is subject to terrible weather conditions, leading to poor crop yields and a lack of law and order. In order to expand Nohr’s influence, King Garon orders his children to invade Hoshido.
