The new Fire Emblem trading card game looks so good I wish I could read Japanese so I could play it. The cards have characters from all the games, which is awesome. Here's scans of some of the cards

praying for an ilyana card

I really hope there's a card for each character. If not, I'd want to see characters from the older games because it would be neat to see them in new art styles. We already have a lot of current artwork for the Awakening characters so I wouldn't mind if there's less cards for them.

I traded in my copy of Smash but when I still had it, Lucina was too hard to use because she could only fight close-up so I made Robin my main instead. Love that he has such a variety of skills. Too bad his tomes run out. Otherwise I would always spam spells constantly. lol

Btw re: witty one-liners, FE always has the best quotes. My favorite is when Frederick from Awakening says "pick a god and pray" before he does a critical hit.

Ike: "I fight for my friends" he is my main in smash though i only play for fun

is frederick your fav from awakening?

I prefer Ike over Marth and Lucina in Smash.

Frederick's not my favorite but I pretty much like almost every character from Awakening because everyone has at least one good thing about them - whether it's personality, costume, skills, etc. That's why I think Awakening was so popular. There was a diverse range of characters that could appeal to many different fans.

If I had to pick favorites, for guys it would be Vaike and Lon'qu. For girls it would be Miriel, Maribelle, and Nowi. To be honest, I got a lot of the children characters but I never enjoyed using them as much as the original characters who I had spent more time getting attached to.

Did you prefer using the original "adult" characters? Or the children? I know many people online preferred the kids

i would say im pretty mixed like for the girls my favs are olivia, tharja and noire while for the boys inigo, gerome, lonqu and chrom as well.

im guessing people like using the kids online because they can really be strong with the whole passing down skill and stuff, doing do whole galeforce ultimate team really makes your team super strong i did in my 2nd playtrough and damn my team was killing it

my overall team was always a mix i would say but more towards parents. the kids i always had in my teams were inigo, gerome and noire.however, towards the end when i was just playing to make my team stronger i found love for lucina and yarne

Funny story when i bought awakening i didnt know about the  marriage thing and married lissa to my avatar without knowing

Not surprised to hear you like Tharja. She is so popular! Even the creators of the game all picked her as their favorite. I can see why  :hurr:

Oh yeah, a lot of advanced players play the game over and over again just to experiment with combinations and breed the best kids possible. lol I kinda just paired up whoever seemed like they would go nice together visually or in the story.

OMG @ your last line about marrying Lissa by accident!  :har: To be honest, I never used Lissa ever again after getting Maribelle since I figured I wouldn't need more than 1 healer. But then I got Libra and Anna so I had 3 healers in my party by the end of it. Poor Lissa, I heard she's actually the best healer stats wise or something like that.

Marth and Lucina actually are some of the worst character in this game, last game Marth was good cause his moves came out fast and strong, now they're super slow.

I'm more attached to the older characters, for the same reason you are lol, with the kids, you could get them to be much stronger cause of them inheriting their parents skills and whatnot, but I just don't care for them as much, some I even forget about their exsistence until someone brings them up, like...Sully's child, I forget her name.

Maribelle, Cordelia, Cherche, Mirerel >>>>

They introduced too many child characters and not enough time with them imo. Plus leveling them up can be a hassle when you've already got well-trained adult characters. I don't even recall Sully having a kid so props to you.

Yessss Maribelle and Miriel  :lub: I knew I could count on the Hyoyeon fans to have good taste.

There's a livestream going over the new FE Trading Card Game "Cipher" that starts in about 12 hours. Unfortunately, it will only be in Japanese but I figure I'll watch anyways in case they show any new cards.

LINK: http://live.nicovideo.jp/watch/lv216702710

in my first play i just married random didnt care about anything since i was just confused about the child thing. my second one i call this my main one since its the one i spent time playing i got all the children that can get galeforce obtain it but still married them to people i like such as chromxolivia, lonquxtharja, cherchexfrederick, avatarxcordelia

oddly i never got married to tharja or olivia even if they are my favs mainly because i feel oliviaxchroms is far better and i enjoy thatjaxlonqu since tharja is crazy and lonqu is a shy bad ass

I like Olivia's design and personality but I could never keep her alive! She's a big step-up from other dancers in the series like Ninian who couldn't even fight but still, I wish the dancer class in general wasn't so weak. Then again, that would make them overpowered and the game would be too easy.

eh I don't feel like spending £5 on three maps, I might when I have some free time.

I never paid for the DLC either. It doesn't seem worth it. Plus I'm a big stickler for physical copies of games (books, music, etc.) so I don't like only having something that exists in digital form. That's why I hope "Fire Emblem: if" will be released as 2 physical versions in the West like Japan...instead of 1 physical and 1 digital.

Chibi-style FE:A keychains

fire_emblem_by_tomoji-d8pir7f.jpg

The artist sells them for $7 each. They're all sold out now but they should be back up soon. Purchase link if interested: http://polterbox.storenvy.com/products/12518535-fire-emblem-keychains

Dancers suck, the problem is that while Olivia's ability is cool she doesn't have the stats to really use it effectively.

I wouldn't mind if Olivia couldn't attack, but she's so weak in every other way as well, it's...not worth it, her movement is shit, she can't move further than the average unit so you can't really give the people in the front lines any help and even if you could her defences are shit so you always HAVE to keep her behind everyone else and be careful.

I much preferred the Herons in FE9/10, they couldn't attack, but they could move 6-9 when transformed (depending on the heron), they can fly so they can traverse all terrain with ease, they could restore more than one persons moves transformed (Leanne can heal two untransformed and Rafiel four untransformed!) and they can passively heal people every turn by just standing next to them and they had other stat-boosting/reducing moves, also I forget, but I also believe after they recover someone's moves, if they haven't used all the movement spaces they can move after it, so they could restore and run, it's been a while since a played PoR/RD so I'm not 100% but despite their flaws, such as their lack of attack and low defence, they didn't feel useless.

I hope they do something to dancers to make it seem like you're not babysitting them next game, give them more stat-changes, or more movement or something...

I pay for DLC, but there are so many maps in Fire Emblem Awakening it just doesn't seem worth it, I'd pretty much have to pay another £40+ pounds for all of them =/ but I think FE:If will unfortunately only be one pack outside of Japan with the other as DLC, plus a third storyline is hidden behind DLC, I hate when companies do that =/ make a full game and then take parts out of it and hide it behind a paywall, makes it feel like I'm paying full price for half of a game, it's one of my least favourite things in gaming, generally with stuff like that I don't buy games until they've gone super low in price but knowing Nintendo, they'll probably have finally lower the price by like...10% on my 30th birthday.

Unfortunately, judging by the few glimpses we got of the dancer in FE: if, it appears to be the same kind of fragile delicate female dancer we're used to. She seems so passive that I wouldn't be surprised if they even got rid of the sword capabilities that Olivia had.

lol Waiting for games to be on sale takes an eternity and like you said, when they finally are discounted, it's not even significant. Worse of all is that Fire Emblem games are limited print on release. It was nearly impossible to find a physical in-store copy of Awakening when it first got released if you didn't have it pre-ordered so 1. it forces everyone to pay full price right out of the game and 2. it encouraged people to get the digital version.

The Fire Emblem TCG starter decks will come with a corresponding code to download a DLC character in FE: if. The Shadow Dragon deck will come with a Marth code, the Awakening deck will come with a Lucina code, and the Booster Box will come with a code for Minerva (FE1/3/AS/11/12) as a pegasus knight.

I wonder if they'll just make those characters paid DLC in the West?

New cards for Ogma and Navarre

The first TCG set will feature characters from Awakening and the first FE game (or Shadow Dragon for those of us in the West.

The second set will have "if" characters.

The third set will have "if" characters as well as PoR/RD characters like Ike.

2a86udQ.jpgi wish it was lyn instead of lucina in smash :rlytearpls: , even though i like lucina too me she is overrated

PrLLLr7.jpgtiki is becoming a mascot to the series along with anna

Totally agree about Lyn. She's my favorite Lord so I'm biased but she'd be a unique fighter in Smash unlike Lucina who's just a clone. Ah well, I guess we should be happy Lyn was even included as an assist trophy.

And yup, Tiki plays a big role in the upcoming Fire Emblem x Shin Megami Tensei crossover for Wii U. She's the most noticeable FE aspect of the game revealed so far.

  • New information about Fire Emblem: if
  • The developers wanted to make a game which took the Arran/Samson choice from FE1 to its extreme
  • Nohr version has more mission types (defend, break through the enemy, etc)
  • The two versions share about 1/6 of the story, the remaining 5/6 plays out differently depending on the version
  • If you download the alternate route you can use a save copy at chapter 5 and choose the other route without replaying the opening chapters
  • The third route has a difficulty level midway between Hoshido and Nohr
  • You'll be able to lower the difficulty in the middle of the game if you find Nohr too hard.

I'm so glad to hear that both versions will be mostly original content. That's basically 3 new FE games (Hoshido, Nohr, and the DLC) instead of just 1. Also, yay for more mission types. Awakening had too many simplistic "kill all the bad guys" missions.

On another note, on my new playthrough, I got Chrom and the Avatar married. Their supports were so hilarious.

Congrats on the wedding! They're probably the most popular pairing in addition to Chrom x Sumia and Avatar x Lucina. I think the developers knew they would be so they put extra effort in making their supports more enjoyable.

It seems like each version of the game will have characters that you can only recruit in that version. And some characters found in both games will have different sides of their personality shown.

If you have a "New 3DS" there's an official FE: if plate coming out.

CDzTuH_UkAAjjjh.jpg

Oh poo, that means Hoshido will lack that variety? Hoshido is sound less and less apealing OTL I might just play it first cause it sounds like going from Nohr to Hoshido would feel like a downgrade.

I do wonder how many chapters each story will have, it's normally around 20 in one game, right? Cause they're working on three different paths, it might be less than that for each individual route, hope not though.

Like snsdJM said, Hoshido sounds more accessible to newcomers who have never played FE before or only played Awakening. Hoshido also has a benefit over Nohr since Nohr won't have a world map. It will just go straight from mission to mission. So no grinding in Nohr even though it will require it moreso than Hoshido.

Personally I will get both versions if they're available but like you, I would play Hoshido first so Nohr will be an improvement.

I think each game will be around 25 chapters and the first 6 in both versions will be the same.

I think Hoshido version is just the awakening 2.0 for the newer fan of the series that want something more easy while the Nohr is targeted for the older fans that enjoy the challenges.

I hope there is a lot of characters im not here for a small cast my fav games Por had 46 playable and RD had 73 playable characters

Yup, you said everything I was thinking. They're trying to cater to 2 groups of fans: the newer fans and the older fans. It's a really smart strategy imo. I hope they keep the options to play "classic" or "casual" mode too.

On one hand, I like having a lot of characters because it gives you more options to pick from. Then again, I'm very indecisive and struggle with choosing a party. Also, if they do put in a lot of characters, they should develop them more instead of just having 1 quirk like "oh she's really nerdy" (Miriel) or "he's obsessed with candy" (Gaius)

Beautiful new official art of Aqua, the dancer from if

main_bg.png

Hmm, I don't think the awakening fans would mind more modes, but you're right, that does make sense.

Just what I was thinking, I don't mind a smaller cast! Just as long as they're suitably fleshed out, I ended up not caring for so many characters in Awkening cause they seemed sooo inconsequential to the plot and didn't really have much going on, especially the ones who ended up joining later like Say'ri and the children, I already had a full plate so I wasn't as invested and I didn't really have a reason to be.

And yeah, I suck at picking units, I want them all to be the same level for everything and all get used evenly, but I cannot lest I risk being underleveled OTL

Even if Awakening fans wanted more modes (which many probably do), the developers are probably too scared to take too many risks. Awakening had a winning formula so it's logical that they wouldn't want to deviate from it.

Totally agree with you! I wanted to recruit all of the newer characters and the kids but I only ended up using a couple of them because - by that point in the game - I already had my set team. I'm the same way with wanting everyone to be the same level. The nice thing about the "pairing up" feature they added in Awakening is that weaker units - like Nowi, Olivia, and Donnel - can gain EXP by being paired up with a stronger unit instead of risking their lives in every battle. It reminds me of Pokemon (without EXP share) where you put your weakest Pokemon first and then switch out to a stronger one so the weak one can gain experience without being in danger.
