remember last year when SM sent out Taeyeon's comeback with all those SMTM songs that were topping the charts?? and now SM releasing Seolo in the middle of a competitive season!! :rlytearpls:

and also senting out RV's Russian Roulette with that digital monster?? RR stayed stuck at #2 on all charts!!

why SM hate their girls?!?! EDIT/ NOT JUST THEIR GIRLIES BUT BASICALLY EVERYONE UNDER THEM!!

Agree

I think they have so many idols that they don't even pay attention to timing anymore (except for their big money maker when they have something to prove only), plus it's not like being 2 in charts will do that they sell less (sorry for my english) so they don't care. It's just a supposition

they can't keep dodging competition.. that's not realistic.

really true

JYP:

'It is not the strong that survive, but rather the ones that survive are strong'

That was deep

TBH I don't think SM is really worried about competing at this point. If so, their music would be lot less experimental or "weird" as ifans like to say, and more along the lines of what everyone else is doing: recycling same sounds, concepts, lyrics and instrumentation and hoping visuals will overcompensate for lack of actual talent.

when is the best timing when we are living in saturated industry? its great to face the competition so you can gauge on your own capability. people who avoid competition is like admitting you are a loser, if you are strong enough, you will win it no matter how. maybe they are too afraid to be called flop which i still dont understand it  :._.: chart charting and music show are just the bonus. i think how much you sells and song impact are far way more important

they try to stay on schedule and release it when they are ready.  don't think they delay or push up to avoid competition.  ain't no one got time for that.  it's usually other who avoid sm artists.  and if they do... it's because they need to arrange their schedule for their own artists.  doubt they hate their artists or why debut them in the first place.  i'm sure they want them successful to make them money.  if not, it's just a waste of their money.

that's not it. there were instances where SM releases survived strong competition and came on top even, like Kyuhyun's At Gwanghwamun, Taeyeon's I and Rain, Heechul and Kyunghoon station release last year etc etc

the truth is, the public seems to have such a negative opinion on SM's music in general, they are literally the opposite of YG. YG's music is almost always guaranteed great reception regardless of the identity of the artist or the content of the release (unless they just prove to be recycled versions of their senior groups) while SM releases are almost always guaranteed to fail regardless of the identity of the artist and the content of the release (unless they luck out with another means of promo that has better reception than SM, like Radiostar or Knowing brothers or unless they have Taeyeon's crazy public recognition level or SM invest particularly a lot in their hype building)

it is very difficult, borderline impossible, to fight against decades worth of negative popular opinions and misconception. just remember the fact k-netz seem to have a strong belief that SM idols are way behind other companies' when it comes to talent and you'll realize how ridiculously strong the misconceptions against the company are.
