Is there something like "realistic" fanfiction?

Recommended Posts

Is there something like a "realistic" genre in asian/kpop fanfiction? Or is this completely contradicting the existence of fanfictions?

Where the protagonists are not living their lives in a complete parallel universe but what happens could actually happen IRL. Where their Korean background is accurately dealt with and their actual lives incorporated into the story?

Does that exist? I would be interested in reading something like that. Can you recommend me anything? (preferrably in English)

There are fics similar like "canon fics" I think they are called, where the story is not based in an AU. But they aren't full as realistic? This used to also bother me when I first got into fics expecting to read about stories about idols in their real life and scenarios they might face, but eventually got used to all the AU stypld fics.

That. Currently reading a few on Archiveofourown. I bloody hate AU fics so far.

There are a lot of fanfics like that actually. Stories that take place in a completely fictional timeline are usually specifically labeled as an AU (alternate universe). But many idol fics in particular play on actual events and moments and build upon them with fictional happenings.

I tend to read fanfics based on a fictional story: for example, I will read a Moon Lovers fanfic involving the 4rth prince who is my favourite badass character in that universe. But the thing is, I won't be able to imagine him with another face than Lee Joon Gi's...

It's the same for all my favourite idols playing in dramas... They become the characters they are playing in my mind's eye...

I've never tried to imagine them in a "realistic" setting...
