This year they were 44th place on yearly digital charts while past few years they are have always been around 10th place. Their songs have always been considered one of the most popular girl groups songs of that year but this year they were overshadowed new girl groups like Twice, Gfriend, Mamamoo that did really well digitally. So like you pointed out they didn't do bad they actually did well but still not as well as previous years not the level people are used to them doing so I think that is the reason people said they flopped.
