Sign 1: Split Mind

Schizophrenia - The word Schizophrenia literally means splitting of the mind, this refers to the detachment and destruction of one's emotions, thoughts, and actions.

Willy Wonka - Every single object in Willy Wonka's office is split in half.

Sign 2: Paranoia

Schizophrenia - One may experience passionate and delusional beliefs that others are getting inside their head and draining them of personal information

Willy Wonka - In the beginning, white workers like Charlie's grandfather filled the chocolate factory. But Wonka succumbed to dire suspicion that any one of them could steal his recipes. So he took action by firing all of his original employees and then hiring oompa loompas (which some believe he viewed as inferior beings. Thus, they wouldn't have the intelligence to think of stealing his recipes.)

Sign 3: Overly Fast Paced Train of Thought

Schizophrenia - One is incapable of carrying out a conversation or continuing to discuss a specific topic, due to the instantly changing thoughts in their mind.

Willy Wonka - A notable characteristic of Wonka is how much he changes the subject, or simply ends a conversation that someone is attempting to engage him in. Wonka, himself, tends to speak in short sentences.

Sign 4: Disassociated Social Behavior

Schizophrenia - One may be socially impaired, resulting in bizarre speech that is irrelevant to the inital coversation.

Willy Wonka - When spoken to or asked a question, Wonka would respond with an obscure and seemingly philosophical expression. These expressions were not understood by the people who adressed him.

Sign 5: Lack of Empathy

Schizophrenia - One is disabled from feeling empathy towards others.

Willy Wonka - When the children experience negative consequences for tampering with his candy or various inventions, Wonka noticeably does not express any form of sympathy for them.
