[Naver: X Sports News] Akdong Musician: "Somewhere other than YG? Never even thought about it."

Screen%2BShot%2B2017-01-10%2Bat%2B8.42.5

1. [+1093, -12] They get the best of both worlds of joining a top company with the freedom to keep their musical style~ ã…Žã…Ž It's nice that their music has no trace of YG's colors.

2. [+876, -14] It's a shame we don't get to see them out of the jewelry case frequently but it's best for them to be in YG

3. [+705, -17] I think it's best for AkMu to be in YG

4. [+564, -11] Their music style won't change wherever they go, but there can be a change in the amount of support they get

5. [+367, -7] How cool of them

6. [+81, -6] I think it's true though. Not sure about SM, but although JYP is great, he controls every little thing so AkMu's not compatible with him. YG let's his artists do whatever they want. It was a good choice for AkMu to join YG.

7. [+67, -3] I read the article and while all three companies have its pros, it's nice that YG lets them do their own thing and keep their originality.

8. [+61, -6] It'll be so weird if their songs had the JYP~ part in them ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹

9. [+53, -4] Their teasers and MVs are always so pretty and there's no interference with their music and Lee Chanhyuk still composes so it's all great but I hope their hiatuses were shorter ã… ã…  Their 'Winter' album was supposed to come out last year ã…

10. [+41, -2: CEO Yang: pleased

I-fans have this mentality that anyone YG touches (I agree it sounds so wrong) will be marked with YG sound, not knowing that YG gives a LOT of freedom. They can work with whoever they want if they requested it. Same with people's concern with Epik High, 100% freedom on their music.

International fans' think they're hipster with the comments about YG's "sound", when this company lets his artists have freedom compared to the big 2 and other small companies.

Didn't they say once that they should've chosen Antenna Music if YHY was in their season? Well at least they changed their thoughts about YG now.

Yes, I recall them saying something like that...maybe partially joking, but reflecting some irritation at being stuck in the dungeon for about 2 years.  It's hard to know what they really think now.  They're in the middle of promotions right now and the interview for this article was probably set up by YG to help in the promotions.  I don't think they could frankly say what they really feel under those circumstances.  In any case, they've been able to put out both a mini album and a full album within a one-year period, so I wouldn't be surprised if they're happy and content right now.

If they get stuck in the dungeon for another 2 years or more (or if Suhyun gets stuck in the dungeon the whole time that Chanhyuk is in the military), they may be feeling quite dissatisfied later on.  Hopefully, that won't happen.  YG would be nuts not to give Suhyun a lot of activities (more HiSuhyun, featurings, other collaborations, etc.) while Chanhyuk is in the military.

I can wholeheartedly agree to this but only for Epik High, Psy, and AkMu.

YG over analysed their songs and picked the ones he liked best as we can see in Winner TV,  but Winner released songs with their own color and a beautiful mix of each members style.

The only good thing about being in YG is that the artists have their full freedom in producing the kind of music they want. YG doesn't alter anyone's style and let them do what kind they want.

But then the bad thing about that is no song ever goes out until YG is pleased with it. I know that's the case for Winner. Like even if they produce much songs and YG doesn't agree with any of them none will be out. They mentioned it in Sketchbook I think...

But I am really glad that everyone in the label really do have their own signature style which is great.

I don't know if that's entirely bad tho. YG artist's songs have high quality, maybe he has a good filter, even if the process is frustratig.

Wrong, they can whatever they want. See Lee Hi and Winner for references.

they have shown their frustration though during their spring album promotions..  (even Lee Hi and Winner complained during their last album promotions) so i don't really think they're trying to be positive or pleasant just because they're promoting. I think a lot has changed in the past year and seems like with them touring and doing variety shows (sketchbook segment), etc then releasing an album less than a year later was exactly what they've wanted all along and they got it.

I'm happy for them and glad they're atleast now doing what they like without an actual work hiatus.

Yes, that's why I said that since "they've been able to put out both a mini album and a full album within a one-year period ... I wouldn't be surprised if they're happy and content right now."  It's been a good year for them.  When they did their spring album, they had just been through a frustratingly long hiatus.  It also may be that YG let them have more releases and activities than otherwise because of Chanhyuk's upcoming enlistment.

What's wrong? I was just speculating on two possibilities: (1) that they are being diplomatic because they are in the middle of promotions; or (2) they are happy and content now because they have been able to put out two albums in less than 1 year.  It doesn't seem likely that both of these possibilities are wrong.

OTOH, I don't think that it's true that they "can [do] whatever they want."  I think they were frustrated at the long hiatus that came before their spring album release.  YG allowed them to do more during the past 10 months.  But that doesn't mean that they can always do whatever they want and release music whenever they want.  It may be that YG gave some special consideration to the fact that Chanhyuk is going into the military soon.

I would like to be optimistic and think YGE are finally getting their act together. Chanhyuk said he most probably will enlist end of this year or early next year. I hope YGE continue to release their artists and keep them busy.

Same here.  There are signs that YGE may indeed be improving the way it manages/schedules releases and artist activities.  We'll probably have to wait and see how 2017 plays out to be sure, but I'm cautiously optimistic.

Then you missed Lee Hi and Winner talking about their frustration during their promos. One Winner guy even said don't sign with YG. They still got a variety show and Japan tour. They were supposed to comeback last summer too but we don't know what happened.
