I've finally come to the scientific conclusion as to why Red Velvet has been under performing a lot

..and that is, they're portrayed as being a "perfect" & very well put together group.

 

I'm gonna be honest. They have the vocals, the dance, even some of the visual, but what's going so wrong? Why are they not having longevity? Or nationwide appeal?

It's because they seem way too manufactured, too pristine...too "perfect", more so than your average SM group. And a lot of people view being perfect as boring or unrelatable nowadays. Which hurts them more in the long run because that doesn't appeal to the masses. It doesn't reflect the views of your everyday fan.

I get that SM is a strict company and more often than not, their idols are told how to act or behave at times. Even going as far on what to say in interviews or how to present oneself thru the public eye. But it just really comes off as monotonous...boring.

I've come to actually like several RV songs, but whenever I try to watch anything of theirs, I just get so bored.

Does anyone else feel the same way?

No, this is just be genuinely being curious about their current standing and where they all fit in in the industry

bc they shorten their promos, don't give them a reality show in 3 years etc etc

the girls are fun and people look up for them but they are not that accesible even if they come from sm

I personally find them funny and hilarious, watch them in weekly idol or Yang and Nam show, SM never market them properly+no fandom name+no lightsticks+no own reality shows. However,I won't deny the fact that they are quite popular now and all they need is better marketing strategy, longer promotion time and better styling.

sometimes I think they debuted at the wrong time, they could've had more hype so it was all bad timing imo... if they come out with similar songs like dumb dumb, ICC, happiness they can attract new fans. Also it's the way SM tries to market them is not helping much or should I say the way SM don't promote them affected their popularity.

I think people underestimated RV. Like a they can bounce back selling 1 million from a not-a-doing-well track not once but twice (Be Natural, One Of These Nights). Usually in kpop, when a song doesn't do well, they will decline after that (too many example). I think RV is doing fine and they have big potential, maybe not to be the biggest girl group but will last long in the industry

the group itself is very formulaic and they lack very little in the talent department

there are way more girl groups around these days than when snsd and 2ne1 debuted, so of course the competition is much stiffer. 

 

 

 

the only way to sell a group in this sort of oversaturated market is to get audiences to form a connection with the girls and the easiest way to do this is through variety shows and solo schedules. an example would be the good reviews irene got when she was co-mc with park bogum for one of the gayos. 

 

 

unfortunately, sm hasn't given them a proper variety show. even nct didn't get one. idk if many current red velvet fans were around in 2014 when exo hit it big with growl, but they gained a lot of fans with their exo showtime thing. red velvet could too - if sm gave them a variety show and allowed them to let loose a little without worrying too much about their image.

Yes SM is putting efforts in RV music/MVs/concepts, but the real efforts should be put in real promotions for their works and releases, and the way they are marketed

I've seen a ton of them. Yes they have a couple of fun parts, but it sometimes gets ruined by the fact they try to hold back and like they are always under SM's watch. With Twice, they aren't that much more funny, but they are a more loose and not as tense.

They are in their 4th year now and they do not have an official fandom name, an official lightstick, variety show, concert, etc

 

Even their debut wasnt even as hyped as EXO or NCT. They literally just dropped an mv in order to cover up for some scandal.
