Who should play the characters in Mulan for the live action film coming out in 2018?

Since Disney is rebooting all their classics into live action films, only fitting Mulan would be next. Hopefully, done justice.

Since it's been green lighted and has a release date, but not yet uncasted, who do you think should play the characters in Mulan?

Honestly, as of now, I can only see Brenda Song play Mulan.

I know, I know, whenever they see her, people usually think of her as being a vapid airhead from playing London Tipton for so long, but idk...

She has a black belt in tae kwon do, so that might come in handy. Plus, she also has Chinese descents, so it'll be fitting. And just LOOK at her! She already looks like Mulan from the animated movie

What do you guys think?
Any other strong Chinese descent actresses that might be big contenders to play Fa Mulan in the live action?

How about the other characters?

why use Chinese descent when there are a lot of Chinese actresses out there (and I'm saying this only because I know anything but a Chinese actress will be deemed as problematic)

I'm not saying Brenda isn't a good choice, but I think people would kick up a fuss, since she's mixed and Hua Mulan is one of the most famous Chinese warriors ever who deserves to be played by a Chinese actress

+Brenda's about to hit 29 and Mulan was, what? 16

even tho Brenda looks waaaaaaaaaay younger than she is

the thing is, having an unknown can be a very huge risk as much as it being a pay off

Brenda is just a safe bet, since she basically started off in Disney

and I honestly can't think of any other Chinese actresses with a slight modecom of western recognition to be suitable for the role

As much as I want Johansson to, no!

She already has The Major, if they whitewash Mulan...people will fucking riot

she looks way too young

even tho the real life Mulan was around the same age

Idt that actress can pull it off

I don't have anyone in mind, but maybe they will cast a mainland Chinese actress to cater to the Chinese market...

Just hope they don't whitewash her.

There's a petition floating around for Jackson to play Shang. I laughed it off initially, but then it struck me how fitting it would be, and now I can't get the idea out of my head.

It appears like this movie will have a different character not Shang.

I saw that petition as well and Kris fans were fighting with Jackson fans about it(there's a petition for Kris to play that character too), pretty hilarious that people are already fighting about a casting that hasn't even been announced.

no they won't. They released casting call information for Mulan around 2-3 months ago and the requirement is that anyone who auditions for Mulan MUST be fluent in Mandarin and English, which is most likely their subtle way of saying "we want to cast someone who has Chinese heritage".

they released a casting call a couple months ago saying they want someone who is fluent (probably native fluent) in Mandarin and English. How many white people do you know who has a native or near-native fluency of Mandarin? Plus another requirement was to live in China for the duration of the filming.

Why do you people think only Western recognition is important lmao? People in the west will watch this because it's Disney and if they cast a Chinese actress who's famous in China, then Chinese people will support the movie too.

Why cast someone with maybe 1/4 of Chinese blood in her as a famous Chinese figure? Pretty sure she can't even speak Mandarin and that's a requirement.

Anyway, considering the requirements they posted on their casting call for Mulan, they're gonna choose an unknown who's below 20 and fluent in both English and Mandarin.

^^^^ This basically

I'm almost certain they're going unknown given how Disney and Mulan is such a big name to carry on it's own. It's not like Disney hasn't done it before, remember they casted an unknown to lead and carry Star Wars
