It's easier to say "actually, I'm a virgin", rather than "actually, I've had sex before", according to the negative connotations of being non-virgin. I always find it so weird when people do this. Even when I was a virgin and my bf had done it before, it never crossed my mind to lie and act like I knew what I was doing. So I think second case is by far the worst and most dishonest. It's not that uncommon for inexperienced people to pretend or lie about having experience just to don't feel like weirdos and I feel someone lying about being a virgin and thus not having get laid with any person before meeting his current boyfriend/girlfriend is a more fishy behavior.
