Do you think Tohoshinki would have been popular if they didn't sing Doushite?

I just can't help but wonder if they would have still hit it big if they never released this bop. (And by 'big' I meant the breakthroughs they reached and obstacles they destroyed such as appearing on Music Station, being featured on SMAPxSMAP, getting to Tokyo Dome, performing on Kohaku etc)

I really feel that Doushite was a game changer for Tohoshinki, like of how Love So Sweet was for Arashi (though maybe I'd credit HanaDan more for that) and Shine We Are was for BoA. They had that typical Kpop fandom prior to Doushite, but Doushite made them really mainstream beyond cable channels and breaking barriers.

Like I said they already had a decent Kpop niche fanbase by this point. But they weren't well known to the regular Japanese people yet until this song.

if im not mistaken doushite is also a theme song for a popular drama right? or is that another song?

None of Tohoshinki's songs were really a song for any Japanese dramas. Stand by U was a theme for a webdrama and Bolero was for that SM produced movie. But they never got any chance to sing an OST for any Getsu9 dramas or anything on terrestrial TV in Japan.

Doushite just so happened to be an earworm and kinda spread. I remember the day it was released and me and my fellow Cassies were really sorry for DBSK because they were struggling in Japan. But the day this song was released we knew it would change their careers forever because it was so good.

I don't think Doushite is the game changer for tohoshinki in japan.....it is " Stay with me tonight"single (2005) - charting for 5 weeks that started it  and their heart mind and soul album ( 2006) that set them on the path ... The impact would be Heart Mind and Soul Album...The songs from this album......" stay with me tonight..somebody to love...my destiny...Asu wa Kura Kara ... Rising sun and heart mind and soul and their 1st live tour concerts

stay with me tonight

I think that era brought them fans but they were pretty much unknown to the general public.

It was this era when Yunho was asked by a passerby to take their picture lol.

Actually this is the album that got them their 1st live tour... i was there when they started with 200 fans and watched their growth...

Lots of artists in Japan do live tours to coincide with albums regardless of popularity. This should be the time they were still doing shows in ZEPP right?

Those days it is not that easy to do live tours.. and progressing from hall to arena and Tokyo dome is a big thing ...there is a sense of pride and achievement that is lacking now.

As I mentioned, they def developed a fanbase then but were not popular enough to the general public

No kpop group for the matter but it build the foundation. Those days there is not much  segregation like now between K fans and public

You're right. Probably more like they had a 'niche fanbase' instead of a K-Pop fanbase. I remember for a couple of years they gotta introduce and explain themselves in TV appearances in Japan which was a stark contrast to their god-like popularity in Korea. For a long time their A-Nation stages were also earlier in the day (the popular acts are always towards the end). There was also less feedback and their A-Nation stages were also used by the audience to do toilet breaks back then  :rlytearpls:

Thats right  they have a niche fanbase but they really worked very hard from the bottom up...

but it was Listen to My Heart that skyrocketed her to the top of the Oricon Charts, not Shine We Are.
