sexicajung101 70
It's been said that kpop is at it's peak and will continue to be popular for 3 more years or be popular forever.

Athena 21,718
I think the second generation (SNSD, 2NE1, Big Bang, Super Junior, etc) peaked in 2011/2012.
Darius 8,485
No. We're currently in a transition from the hype phase to stabilized popularity. The popularity remains but it's less talked about. Obviously in certain regions that goes hand-in-hand with declining sales but it's not dying by any means.

Sarah ☆ 4,630
Do you mean in Korea? Because Kpop can't really die. But I do think that the Hallyu wave seems a little less hyped lately.
sexicajung101 70
wat there was a peak around 2010 where snsd, suju, dbsk, 2pm, big bang, 2ne1 brought in many fans but there has yet to be many new groups to reach that kind of international popularity. I mean exo is pretty popular but it's not as popular as snsd was.
SimSimi 503
No. We're currently in a transition from the hype phase to stabilized popularity. ^That. It's not like it was going to be novel forever. I think this current generation (SNSD, 2NE1, Big Bang, Super Junior, etc) peaked in 2011/2012. ^And that. The next generation of K-Pop will be one that's represented by Tia and Jennie Kim.

Those groups were huge and brought many people into kpop but there has yet to be a group as big as those 3.

Reckless 1,320
It depends on the concepts and groups currently. 2012-13 had shitty concepts and most of the top groups under performed.

People are only having such thoughts because SM/YG didn't launch any new groups for a long time. EXO and WINNER are taking over in the crazy department and I see no reason why they won't be able to surpass their peers.

I mean exo is pretty popular but it's not as popular as snsd was. Just curious... did people think the same thing before SNSD, Big Bang, TVXQ etc. were popular? Like when SNSD got a black ocean or Big Bang weren't as popular as they are now? I think it takes time to surpass other groups esp. when those groups are already established and have a ton of fans. When these huge groups die down, the next generation will take over, gathering new fans and fans of 2nd generation idols too...
dream 1,916
not really, more like a transitional period. yea I mean there's exo but who else? I don't see the new yg guy group or nuest or the future yg girl group to surpass big bang or 2ne1. nobody expected 2NE1 to be huge, nor SNSD to overtake Wonder Girls, nor BIGBANG to explode with Lies, etc. The only thing that's probably a fact is SM/YG will continue to dominate the industry 'cause they're way too established to be dethroned. I don't see the new yg guy group or nuest or the future yg girl group to surpass big bang or 2ne1. Those groups didn't debut yet. Nobody saw EXO becoming top tier as quickly as they did back in 2011, so that prediction is pretty useless. Not even gonna ask why you mentioned Nugu'Est as if the future of K-Pop is riding on someone that random

kariey 296
That's what everyone has been saying for the past 3 years and that has yet to happen. EXO has become the top boy group to look out for, now we just need the potential top girl group after SNSD goes and leaves kpop to plummets with no girl group to fill the hole.
