My dad had once told me that you 2 have a lot of differencies with each other. I don't know if that's true or not. Is it? ._. because i have a friend who is both of these ethnicities and i am a little confused here. Are you guys in peace with each other or not?

I mean, mostly it's just an old rivalry that we joke about. When we see each other and learn where we're from we pretend to dislike each other and make jokey digs.

In sports or politics it's a bit... tense. But the general public aren't having fights in the street at the sight of one another.

there are many historical differences yes, because Britain exerted imperial rule over Ireland and oppressed our people for hundreds of years, and tbh English people aren't really taught about their history with Ireland so many are ignorant of why we historically resent their imperialism over us and so misunderstand it as some kind of blind cultural hate when it's not that at all.

so I wouldn't call it "just a rumour" because there's certainly some basis in it and a good reason for political/historical animosity

obviously, of course on a personal level it's not that serious lol. I have plenty of English and British friends and many Irish people go to live in the UK since it's convenient. I lived in England for a time myself. no given Irish person is going to hate someone just for being English or vice versa

having known various English and British people all my life I can honestly count only one time where I had a political altercation with an English person because I thought their views about Ireland were intentionally offensive. in the majority of cases it's just ignorance or the usual tired stereotypes.

now, if they start misrepresenting our shared history, then that is another matter...

This best describes it from what I've experienced.

I'm an English person, living in Scotland, and have a couple of Irish friends. Scottish people do like to dislike English people, but it's not malicious, more like teasing. It's the same with Ireland too I think,

It's mainly because of the past and the fact England likes to consider itself the most important part of the UK/the best
