2016 has been a real TWICEcoaster for both Onces and Twice. I'll do a little recap of this year and I would like onces to share their thoughts on this year, on Twice, on fellow onces etc in this thread. It could've been done in the main thread but since our main thread can sometimes go too fast, it would have been a mess to have those posts with pictures, other conversations, videos, information etc.

Twice's Like Ooh Ahh's return on the charts

January actually started great. Twice's debut song "Like Ooh Ahh" unexpectedly climbed the charts. They went from #99 on Melon to #9 and JYPE decided to give Twice another round of promotion. Twice promoted LOA on music shows once again with iconic remixes. They also were nominated on Inkigayo and lost to a few points on The Show. At that time, onces were so happy that Twice finally proved their antis wrong and escaped their "flop" tag.

Tzuyu's flag incident

But then things took a grim turn on January 15th when Huang An posted his accusations against Tzuyu. I won't talk about it much but I believe it was the darkest point of the year for Twice. As a once, I'm just happy it eventually blow over and Tzuyu is smiling brightly now after all this. We got this emotional moment where Tzuyu thanked everyone for their support a few days into the controversy at the Golden Disk Awards in her speech:

Cheer Up Era

When JYPE started teasing about "Cheer Up", I remember that other fandoms mocked Twice for being a certain group's knock off because of their outfits while some onces hilariously kept making threads about the history of cheerleaders. We just hoped that everything would go well and people would stop making comparisons. Cheer Up teasers dropped one by one and we were super confused. We got badass teasers with a rock instrumental, innocent settings, horror movies feels in some teasers. We were hyped and also worried. Then Cheer Up was released and Twice's main thread jumped 100 pages in a day. It was crazy. We were shook to the bone but little did we know it was only the beginning...

Sana's Shy Shy Shy started becoming a hot topic 1-2 days after CU release. We were happy that another member after Tzuyu gained attention while skeptical. Then everyone and their mothers started singing "I was meeting my friends, sha sha sha" from Yoo Jae Suk to Benedict Cumberbatch, random ahjummas to cute babies. It was everywhere: on music shows, varieties, vlive, dramas, in the streets, on Youtube.

But I guess we were too amazed by CU doing well on its own. That song stayed #1 on Melon for 24 days. Despite the high competition (Akmu, Crush, SMTM to name a few) that song kept climbed back to the top spot and later stuck for 17 weeks in the top 10 tying Wonder Girls' "Tell Me" record. CU ended up winning 2 daesangs at the end of the year, cementing its own legend. Twice also joined the other girl groups of JYPE who all won daesangs: Miss A and Wonder Girls.

Twice's Page Two mini did well too. It was the first album from a new gen girl group to break the 100K mark and Twice was for the first time named by the media the new generation leader

As for the Youtube views, Twice did at first averagely but the steady increase of views over the months helped Twice to break the records of the fastest video to reach 40 millions, 50, 75 and 100!

It wasn't apparent at first but now it is: Twice released a national hit! Even today as I'm writing this, that song is still mentionned.

TT era

Even though Twice was amazing during CU era and us onces were left speechless (even the most confident onces couldn't believe what was happening), we were still not expecting them to do even better with their next single. Sure, we were hoping it but our first worry was the song, MV, well everything except success. Pages and pages were wrote in the Main Thread about their comeback, the concept, the MV, the songs. We argued a lot (BEP vs other producers, dance MV vs cosplay MV etc) but in the end we all united when the teasers started coming out. I remember we were all skeptical about them because JYPE trolled us again with normal images and no apparent concepts in the pictures. They teased us for weeks and we waited until we got the first teaser video: Halloween! I was personally happy because it was exactly what I hoped (and what many onces predicted).

Twice also released "One in a million" which is a great and meaningful fansong during their 1st anniversary. Sana cried during this moment and we all did it with her!

TT didn't disappoint. I speak personally but I loved TT at the first listen. While it took me some time to love Cheer Up (now it's my favorite song from Twice), TT was a homerun right off the bat. The MV was great, I liked the dance and especially the intro.

TT also did well both physically and digitally and also on Youtube. It pretty much beat every Youtube record: fastest to reach 10 millions, 20, 30, 40, 50, 75 and probably in two days 100. One week after "Twicecoaster: Lane 1" it was already the best-selling album for a girl group this year. It broke the records of the highest album sales in a week (with 94k sold on Hanteo),highest album sales in a day (34K) and now the highest selling album for a girl group on Hanteo all time. I still can't believe Twice did all that, it seems like a dream actually. TT even managed to break some records on Melon, Instiz and Gaon such as the highest number of streams in a week for a girl group all time, biggest number of days stayed at #1 on Melon (25) or 91 hours of PAK (against 25 for Cheer Up).

End of the year

After this Twicecoaster of a year, we got some emotional moments for both Twice and onces when Twice won SOTY twice and it was the validation of all their efforts, dreams and sufferings. From 6mix being cancelled twice for Jihyo, Nayeon, Jeongyeon and once for Sana to Sixteen and then finally debuting and flopping on the charts and eventually climbing back to the top 10 after promoting hard in schools, universities, festivals etc.

I was already emo when they won but after seeing them cry so hard (especially Nayeon and Jihyo), I cried too. They went through a lot this year but like they say "after the rain comes the sun".

I'll end this recap/thoughts with this amazing video from @Juhyun:

Please share your thoughts on this year, Twice, everything!

Sorry but this thread is so stupid if this thread is only for once why not post it in twice official thread:

http://onehallyu.com/topic/20122-%E2%98%85%E2%98%85-one-in-a-million-%E2%99%AC-the-official-twice-%ED%8A%B8%EC%99%80%EC%9D%B4%EC%8A%A4-thread-%E2%98%85%E2%98%85/

Because, as I said in the OP, Twice's main thread will go super fast during the Gayo and it will be a mess to read the posts of onces about this year among videos, pictures, info, tweets, spazzing and other kind of discussion. Also, if some onces aren't here right now, they can still easily read the posts related to this without having to go through 20+ pages.

Shit it was a bad idea to watch that last video around your family... I'm tearing up bad :(

My girls have been really amazing this year! Even though I didn't start stanning them till around August, I loved LOA and was anticipating CU, and didn't dissapoint me as they served me BOPS! I knew about Tzuyu's controversy and symphatized with her, but I wasn't back in the Kpop loop until Twice hooked me in... I wished I started stanning them earlier!

I have been with them since Sixteen so i knew what (part of) they had been through during 3 album promotions. All i can say is no matter what happen in the future, i will still support and root for them. Let's just hope for another successful year ahead.

And i'm new to this forum so i didn't know how much ONCE had suffered during their so called flop debut and the flag accident. Wishing you guys all the best in 2017 and let's just enjoy another happy year with Twice  :rlytearpls:

I was never into Kpop at all and told people Kpop fandom is too confusing and toxic to get into (still true tho) but Twice, a random girl group that had just two music videos, without knowing anything about them I was already enchanted! The journey of going through all of the Twice videos and getting into Kpop was long but it was always worth it. I haven't been a Once for long but watching everything from the start to right now, I've seen how much the girls worked super hard this year, 2016 (well, technically last year for me lol) and they deserve every music show trophy, every praise and their daesangs! But more than anything, more than any award for 2017, my hope for them is to continue to work happily together as a group ♡
