For 80s and 90s people, who is/was your favorite actor of the HK golden film era?

I know some great ones like Tony Leung and Andy Lau, but I will always be haunted by Leslie Cheung's acting. From A Better Tomorrow to Farewell My Concubine, he transformed into his characters so well. He was beloved by many asian countries. Tbh, I barely find the same charm in chinese actors these days in terms of acting.

oh it was by Wong Kar Wai again? I remember when tony accepted an award for i think it was in the mood for love or 2046 and all he said was just like "thank you wong kar wai". i actually enjoy wkw's directing style. it's slice of life with drops of romance and theatrical feel to it. just my cup of tea. if you like wong kar wai, definitely watch days of being wild starring leslie. it's the prequel of In the Mood for Love and 2046. All three movies received best actor awards

Leslie Cheung's Farewell My Concubine. One of my favorite Hong Kong movies of all time. Andy Lau, Jackie Chan, Jet Li, and Stephen Chow. (Basically the ones I've seen in movies here in the US.)

For females, Cecilia Cheung, Shu Qi (I love her in Close To You), and Maggie Cheung.

Lots of Cheungs. Wonder if they're all related somehow.

i think it's pretty similar because Leslie's character in Days of Being Wild was written by Tony's character in IMFL and 2046. He basically wrote about himself. They're all play boys. I havent watched IMFL and 2046, just read their synopsis. I'm planning to watch them soon.

IMFL and 2046 are both amazing, really. I know everyone talks about how IMFL is super great, but my favorite one is 2046, zhang ziyi shined so much in it
