How Do I OneHallyu?

The Dense One

Recommended Posts

Hey there, I'm The Dense One... Long time lurker, first time talker.

As you will see by my posts later on I am kind of dense... I also run a blog --> http://thedenseone.blogspot.co.uk/

I haven't updated it since forever though :(

I guess I should talk a bit about myself while I'm here so, I'm from South London (yes it makes a difference which cardinal direction in London you're from apparently...) and I got into K-Pop exactly a year ago from writing this...

And here's a detailed strcuture into my favourite groups (if ya'll actually care about that).

Girl Groups:

SNSD - Their old stuff is amazing and they have some of the best variety skills I have ever come across, ironically it was one of their worst songs (I Got A Boy) that got me into K-Pop. They don't really do anything for me musically and quite frankly there are more talented groups out there, but the reason I'm a Sone is because of the fact that this is the only group that I have actually felt some sort of attachment to, I actually like their persona and not just their music.

My favourite member is Sooyoung because of a couple things, she is fluent in Japanese (always a plus) she does amazing impressions and she seems really cool. She's a heck of an actress too. That and her name means Swimming... What more could you want, right?

Wonder Girls - The first K-Pop group I've actually listened to, this was way back in 2008/9 when I was busy searching up Pokemon Emerald Hack Videos and it was a parody of Alice in Wonderland done by Tamashii Hiroka... I heard the song "So Hot" and instantly fell in love with it. However, because I was too ignorant to not respect anything other than Japanese or English-language music, I didn't ride the Hallyu Wave until 4 years later.

My favourite member has to be Yubin, and before ya'll start claiming I have a thing for tall and dark-skinned Korean girls, let me tell you why I like her. The girl has style, swag and flow and DRUNKEN TIGER of all people gave her props on her ability and said she showed potential... Now that's something.

Girls' Day - "Expectation" got me into this group and "Female President" kept me there. The one thing going through my mind when I watched Expectation was, "Damn these girls are fierce and this is a hit, why are they not more popular than they are?". Then I watched their older stuff and understood why. When you have stuff like "Kyawoodung" and "Twinkle Twinkle" you really aren't gonna make it far, even A Pink would call bullshit on the sheer cringe brought from those concepts (although Twinkle Twinkle was actually decent and showed off what the girls could do). But ever since "Something" came out, I have been hooked on these girls... And I'm glad I am, Minah has awesome variety skills and a voice to match.

My favourite member... This is more difficult but I would pick Sojin. The girl is mad talented, skilled piano player with a body and a voice that can make a man fall in love. Hard. Did I forget to mention she looks awesome with red hair?

SISTAR - Again, another girl group that I wasn't too interested in until something dropped for them... "Gone Not Around, Any Longer" was their sub-unit's hit but it is such an amazingly composed song with subtle jazz hits and smooth vocals. Bora slays it too, just saying.

Then along comes "Give It To Me" and boom I'm struck by them, can't let them go... Out of all the groups on this list however, I think SISTAR is the one I like the least because I have a small problem with the fact that Hyorin is amazingly talented but annoying as hell to watch on variety. I love her to bits, but seriously she's a bit much at times. Bora and Dasom on the other hand, I can deal with!

My favourite member would be Bora, Dasom almost beat her there with Soyou not too far behind and Hyorin coming last (See? I told you it isn't just tall dark-skinned Korean girls). Bora is just so beautiful it's hard NOT to like her, and the fact that she doesn't take herself too seriously is a plus too. Also, she has a nice flow... So do most of the girls so far.

miss A - JYP girls are dominating this list right now, miss A is gorgeous and fierce! I would just stan the whole group, but that's not how I work. Min and Jia hold it down dancing wise, Suzy has a great voice with variety skills and acting to match, and Fei is just elegant and talented. What I love about this group? They have yet to let me down musically... SISTAR has bombs like "Loving You", SNSD don't even get me started, Wonder Girls aren't that bad but I just can't enjoy "2 Different Tears" and pre-Exception Girls' Day is pretty awful. I have yet to find a miss A song that I did not like... It's just amazing that they just have hit after hit.

This was the hardest one to pick a bias for, but I would pick Fei (this time around it isn't a Korean girl that is tall and dark-skinned) there's just something about her that I like, but overall I guess I just stan the whole group anyway so it doesn't matter really matter which way.

SPICA - The least well-known group on this list. I don't usually mess around with the nugu groups, but anyone who has listened to SPICA knows why this is an exception. Truly a devestatingly underrated group, they are amazing and even the tutelage/mentoring of Lee Hyori seems to not be gaining them popularity, and that's a darn shame. SPICA is the only other group on this list that has yet to make a song to disappoint me, I have loved everything they have put out... The best part? Every single singer in this group could be a main vocalist in any other K-Pop group... One of them was a vocal coach for Infinite for goodness sake, she coached Sunggyu!

Who am I talking about? Boa of course, my bias... Girl is amazing. I saw her on Hello Counsellor and I heard the notes she hit on "Russian Roulette" and "Painkiller" live, she has my heart on a platter, because she is beautiful too. She also managed to tie with Sooyoung as my eternal K-Pop bias and I think if I see more of her (especially with SPICA's song out now) she might just win.

I also like Brown Eyed Girls too, but not enough for me to write something like this about them, especially when I don't know enough about them yet.

Ya'll with me so far? This is a long read, right?

Boy Groups:

SHINee - The best 5 piece boy group in K-Pop right now in terms of singing together live and in terms of ballad quality (even though I've written this, I'm pretty sure VIPs are still gonna attack me after this). Every man in that group can sing; Jonghyun is obviously in the lead in terms of technique and emotive singing, Onew has the purest of tones and sheer vocal power, Key just has handsome timbre and can do ballads amazingly, Taemin has also got some expertise in singing technique and has come into his own, Minho has shown some vocal flare recently too although it is still pretty basic. What makes them great is they have such a unique style with their hooks, exhibited in Dream Girl, Juliette, Why So Serious, Everybody, etc.

Favourite member? Jonghyun. Hands down, that man is amazing... Hell of a good bassist, coming into his own as a lyricist and a composer and his voice just soothes the soul, freaking wow. Onew would come close too because the variety skill in this guy is so unique and yet charming at the same time, he's someone you could have a good time with! That and when he sings, he makes women go crazy... Just saying.

Block B - The funny thing here is that Big Bang or B.A.P could've taken their place, and I love Zico and G-Dragon to bits... But they wouldn't be my favourite groups respectively because as hip-hop/rap groups they are both lacking something that Block B has (even though most of Big Bang and B.A.P's discography is my jam and peanut butter), Block B has the apathy part of a hip-hop group down, when they're on stage the swagger and charisma of not giving a damn what people think is so strong there AND in their MV's, I just can't help but give them props on that, and thensome.

Zico is the man here, there is something about cocky guys with hearts of gold that I can't help but stan them. Most K-Pop guys are flower boys that are the charming "I will be there for you" oppa type, and there is nothign wrong with that. But when an idol is an asshole and doesn't pretend to be the opposite, I find it refreshing. Zico is good-looking and he knows it, freaking cool too.

CNBLUE - They are Korean Maroon 5 or UVERWorld... And I am loving every single solitary second of it. These guys are the coolest cats around right now and every song is a hit, "In My Head" and "I'm Sorry" got me hooked on them and also the fact that Yonghwa owns a Les Paul, the guy has great taste!

If I had to pick then it would be Yonghwa, again the guy is variety gold, damn talented and doesn't pretend to be otherwise. Also, he finally got Seobot to stop having romantic fantasies about Sweet Potatoes and look his way, now that's skill. Jonghyun is a close second and not because of SHINee either, more to do with the fact that he is a hell of a singer and an amazing guitarist.

DBSK - And by that I mean the Original 5, screw the sub-units they have (even if they are both really good), the OT5 is where it's at... To this day I will still sing "I got you~~ Under my skin..." in the shower and I will still bump "Wrong Number" as my ringtone, say nothing haters, WHAT!!!

... Okay that was a bit too much, but the group is amazing and I honestly think that SM dropped the ball with this group (and don't tell me the circumstances where out of hand, screw that I want me some DB5K!!) I really want my bias, Junsu, to sing with his hyungs again and have them own the K-Pop world once more.

VIXX - These guys and SHINee would have to be my favourites out of the entire list (because the variant of DBSK I stan doesn't technically exist anymore), the uniqueness of each concept, the style and the vocals just make it all work for me. These guys could be the kings of K-Popone day with the right push, they have the look and the talent and honestly they just need some sort of push from the company to break free from nugudom. "Hyde" and "Voodoo Doll" are hits, I swear.

Ravi, Leo and Ken are contenders for the prestigious "Who is my bias in this group?" award, but I would give it to Ravi... This guy is easily in the top ten rappers of K-Pop list and could probably make top 5 with some more work (though he does have stiff competition from people like Zico, T.O.P, Rap Monster, BamBam, Bang Yongguk, Mino, etc.) but he is seriously amazing at what he does!

That was a long read, and if you made it this far congrats... If not then well I'll just summarize here.

Fave Groups (Biases): SNSD (Sooyoung), Wonder Girls (Yubin), Girls' Day (Sojin), SISTAR (Bora), miss A (Fei), SPICA (Boa), SHINee (Jonghyun), Block B (Zico), CNBLUE (Yonghwa), DBSK (Junsu), VIXX (Ravi).

I'm not sure if there's anything else I should add, so feel free to ask me something or whatever... And I'm glad to be a part of the OneHallyu community.

Eh.... I don't like this one as much, but thanks for showing me anyway! :)

How do you like WG and SNSD at the same time?

That's beyond me.

The same way you can like NSYNC and Backstreet Boys at the same time... Enjoying the music and not caring about the fanwars.

Welcome~
