OnCloud9 3,397
I'm considering moving to Houston because I got a job offer there but I've heard a few things that's discouraged me. If you could honestly answer me, I'd appreciate it. I'd be relocating for the summer only if that changes anything. I live in Austin currently. Does it ever get unbearably hot? What's your opinion on the safety of the city? I've heard Downtown Houston is pretty unsafe if you're alone. Are Houstonians bad drivers from your experience? Is traffic really bad? If you have anything else to add, please do. I need all the input I can get from actual people who live there. Research only gives you so much. Thanks in advance! Loser 784
I've lived there as a kid. Summers can get hot (100+ F) but usually people stay indoors anyway. Safety wise I don't think it's too dangerous, but might be because I've lived/worked in pretty sketchy places. As long as you're in a group you'll be okay. NEVER leave anything valuable or looks valuable in your car especially downtown or in the Asian areas. You'd probably get your car broken into. Houston is pretty trafficky as is any major populous city. Drivers can be pretty aggressive there from what I heard. But besides that there's a lot of great food places and fun stuff to do in Houston.

I've visited Houston many times but always in the winter and never long enough to actually get a feel of the city. I have family that lives in the River Oaks area and they're really excited about me moving for a whole summer so they're opinions aren't exactly reliable because they only tell me the good things Is there anything about living in Houston that you didn't like? meowmeowmeow 755
I'm from Houston but go to college in the Northeast. Graduating this coming June, working in NYC next year, and plan on not coming back to live permanently ever. Reasons: - I hate driving, and you MUST drive in Houston - I sweat when I walk outside in December (aka now) - It's not a city for young people unless you have an established friend group (from high school or something) - Drivers are terrible but generally respect southern hospitality, and waiting at 4 way stop sign intersections is a battle of "no, you go first!" - Cars have the right of way here, not pedestrians or bikers - My friends' cars got broken into while parked downtown multiple times (If you don't mind me asking, what type of job would you have? - I interned downtown in finance a couple summers ago, and it was UNBEARABLY sweltering in pantsuits) Feel free to ask me more
