By sales gimmicks, I mean things like (random) photocards, different covers, different versions (where I guess there is not one "ultimate" version that contains everything but each version has something unique, like different bonus tracks).  I'm interested in is knowing whether the introduction of certain gimmicks increased the number of albums you purchased.  I'm not familiar with how each group has done their albums throughout there career, so I guess it's possible that some groups have always done sales gimmicks and haven't really changed things up, let me know if I included one of those....  If they've always had sales gimmicks but did something different between albums (like first they had random photocards, but then they actually had different covers) and this did cause you to buy more, please answer it that way.

Personally, when b.a.p first included random photocards with One Shot, I still only bought one album, 'cause, w/e.  But then I heard that the Taiwan edition would contain all the photocards, so I actually bought that, 'cause, to hell with it.  With Badman (randomized photocards again) I only bought one copy, though.  In my case, I'm actually not sure what I should answer, because the extra One Shot album is not reflected on either Gaon or Hanteo, and of course what I'm wondering is if the differences would show up there and be different between newer and older fandoms.

If it weren't obvious, at baseline I only buy 1 album.  I'm not sure what I would do if there were different cover art and/or photobooks, but oppa's face is never on the album cover anyway, so I wonder if it would ever happen. XD  I do know of a fan that has bought multiple copies of albums that I think had no marketing gimmicks attached to gift to people (yay fannish evangelism!)

(Sorry if a group you buy albums from wasn't included, but I can only include 6 options.)

EDIT: if marketing gimmicks cause you to denounce the group in a rage, do let me know. XD  I know the multiple covers for IGAB irritated some people and that certain coveted covers became unavailable really quickly, thus probably decreasing overall sales, though that's not quite the same thing, I guess.

Heh... I bought two copies of The Boys... hoping for taeyeon and fany photocards.... but ended up with 2 yoonas... hmmm

edit: and I also got two copies of IGAB for taeny... But if they were just normal albums without photocards/versions like their first album, I would only buy one... Since this comeback is being delayed my thirst is real... so i might buy more than 1 copy again... >.>

:O  Did you auction one off for something ridiculous?  (... or did The Boys not go out of print or anything like that.)

Infinite's sale gimmicks?

Have they had any?

EDIT: one fan seems to think they have, unless they're answering theoretically...

One of the worst cases is T-ara's Bunny Style.

There were 10 different versions each having a song not on any of the others. So to get the whole thing you needed to buy all 10 and they were around $11 to get all the songs they wanted you to spend over $100 . Pretty ridiculous

I consider it all extra stuff. When buying a physical album, I primarily consider number of tracks and type of track (remixes and instrumentals do not rate highly in my book, lol).

I suppose I have bought some albums just to have them, though. I had already bought f(x)'s discography on iTunes, including Pink Tape the minute it was released, but I ended up buying physical copies of that and Pinocchio in SK since they weren't too expensive. I would only do that for f(x) and 2NE1, though. For everyone else, the above applies.

I *did* choose Pinocchio over the repackage, Hot Summer, because the photobook is a lot better. But it was because I was planning on getting an f(x) album anyway and had to choose.

I own all versions of I Got A Boy, 2 copies of Hoot, and 2 copies of The Boys and I don't regret it at all

For I Got A Boy, I started with the group version, then Jessica's, then Yuri and Taeyeon's and after that I just kept going...

How..... hahaha

I can barely justify to myself spending money on one album. Were there photocards for Hoot and the Boys or something?

I've never really bought a physical album lol but i will when suju has their comeback. Some people are obsessed with photocards. i've seen some on ebay go for hundreds of dollars like what's the point?

I don't think i personally would buy multiple copies of a physical album when i buy it digitally anyway, but i know people that have all the covers of the Mr. Simple album and multiple copies of the SFS album because it had a different color lettering.

I bought two copies of IGAB, the Taeyeon version and group version because I wanted the two different posters. I ended up with two group posters.  :soul: Taeyeon's photobook though  :chu:

I got The Boys and the Mr. Taxi repackage too... no regrets!

Why didn't you answer "I bought >1 copy than usual" in the poll, then? :<  New cover+photobook is a new gimmick!

Congrats on actually getting them all, though! XD

I don't mind it. In regards to Exo, I buy several copies of their albums anyway, regardless of 'gimmicks'.

One of the reasons I didn't include Exo was because I knew they've always had random photocards and I don't think that's changed between albums.

Lmao nobody on here buys many albums

<points to persons quoted above>

Though of course I don't expect the number of ppl who bought multiple albums to be that high, anyway.  But you know, if someone already buys many albums, then marketing gimmicks wouldn't affect their buying patterns and they'd be answering "I buy the same # as usual".
