According to some OH people, you are a flop if you don't top digital charts.

Especially, when they say that BTS has no hit songs because they never destroyed Melon Chart.

I mean, they are soon-to-be one of Asia's top acts, but they have no hit songs?

Also, not everyone in Korea uses Melon or similar stuff to listen to music.

Also, yes BTS is huge in Korea.

i mean you can't deny that melon is the most important chart to gauge chart success

It can determine how Success a song is but can not determine how popular the singer is.

I mean out of 65m korea population , how many own a melon account ? How many people stream song regularly ?

I doubt 30+ years old fellow with family bother to stream on daily basis

of course. but if you're not using charts how are you gauging how popular the singer is? it's impossible

not that popularity is that important of course, but if you are trying to figure it out it doesn't make sense to not look at charts?

Melon is mostly used by people in their 20s. Being popular among people in their 20s is great, because it can lead to CF deals, because people in their 20s spend the most money on stuff they dont need.

Whats important is that not everyone under 20 uses melon, age group where boygroups are the most popular.

Besides, it was already proved that BTS has ton of Youtube views from Korea. So people in Korea listen to their music.

There are other ways to gauge the popularity of a singer. Check out Gallup for example. Hyorin was there even when she totally flopped digitally during her comeback.

Melon and other charts are mostly about the song, not the singer.

i actually never knew about gallup. it's interesting and i could see how it would gauge popularity more

i do still think that it's still important to keep charts in mind, but now i understand that there are other factors. you changed my view!

Gallup, Forbes and Sisa are 3 of the most relevant and reliable national surveys out there. Here check out Gallup's 2016 results.

If you think about it Melon streaming can't really gauge how much more popular you are then another artist...kpop groups can last longer on melon than artists that are more popular just because they have a dedicated fandom. Digital downloads are a better indication.

Yes. But mostly GG stans just like most BG stans care more about physicals.

Tell this to a lot of kpop fans and especially to a lot of people here. They're still living in 2013-2014, before 2015 happened and BTS left the nugudom thanks to I Need U and RUN.
