Is I.O.I's Yeonjung more effective in promoting WJSN than Cheng Xiao?

Lately I've found myself being really into studying different marketing strategies of promoting kpop groups and since I really see potential in Cosmic Girls (they can surely be in top 5 gg with right promotion) I was wondering if Yeonjung is really helping them in anyway.

Do you think Yeonjung helps WJSN to get some exposure or is Cheng Xiao still their main golden member?

 

I'd personally never put Yeonjung into WJSN, Cosmic Girls have enough girls already and except Xiao there are other members that has star factor like Exy and Bona.
I also didn't see any kind of change in popularity with her addition, except that they're slowly growing, but in my personal opinion that would have been possible even without her.

I guess their January comeback will really show where they stand in kpop girl groups world.

Maybe Cheng Xiao is more "used" for getting Chinese audience and Yeonjung is more for getting Koreans.

Imo, adding yeonjung was a good thing for both wjsn & yeonjung (her image improved).

But when yeonjung was added i was curious bc i stan ioi, so I checked out wjsn/ secret (which is probably one of my fav songs this year) & even watched started watching their reality show. Now I am def a fan (not hardcore tho) & i hope for their success.

Momomo was one of the most dissapointing debuts for me so I stopped following them, I was sure Cheng Xiao popularity came before Yeonjung being added. Secret was bop.

Rather than popularity i think yeonjung more recognized / well-known by korean public. Many korean know her singing ability , WJSN has dawon who if not same are better than yeonjung, but she never able to show her ability to public.

Without Yeonjung's hype, I doubt Secret would have entered the charts.

Cheng Xiao's popularity was a consequence of them getting more attention thanks to Yeonjung.

WJSN have many potential member, Starship need to land them job for other to gain popularity or attention. If lucky even with 1 variety , a member could be famous instantly. I genuinely believe one do just as well as the other at promoting WJSN. With Yeonjung being added, they were able to release Secret, which has turned out to be one of their best, and arguably, one of the best CB's of this year.

 

With CX, just her landing CF's and photoshoots not only propels her personal fame, but also WJSN outside of Korea, as well. Besides, many of the other members (Mei Qi being in movies/CF's, EXY & success on UR, Bona & Seola) have/have the potential to build the group's success individually.

ISAC & 'Pitch King' Helped Xiao to gain popularity and i think Yeonjung needs something like that to boost her popularity,.

on the other hand some other members having individual activities as well like "Mei Qi"

Yeonjung really needs an impact to hit big, maybe a collaboration with a very popular artist will do the job,

starship might give her tons of individual solo activities but it won't work without a big impact,

the new gen girl groups game is very strong: Twice/BlackPink/Red Velvet/Gfriend/Mamamoo etc... so many strong competitors so starship really have to push hard and give wjsn an impact and make them hit big if they want to compete with popular groups,

Actually I only pay attention to WJSN after YJ was added (cuz I'm IOI fan). And lots of ppl who started to care about them for YJ too. So that's a big bonus for the group (and now she with CX are the most popular out there and SS just put her in singing projects now and then, that also helps her and the group more well known). Honestly without YJ I'm not sure I would give WJSN a try cuz there r so many gg out there...

Other members might have "star" factors or smt but honestly as a non-fan, lowkey listener, for now I can only recognize CX and YJ in the group (and same for public I guess...)

Signed back in just to make this comment bc I was low key offended while lurking in this thread. I don't doubt that IOI member's popularity, but it's completely unfair to base Sungso's growing popularity on her. First of all, I discovered Sungo on Happy Together (I think that is what it is called) and then fell in love with her after her IAC appearance. All the while I didn't even know anything about the IOI member. (still don't tbh) Likewise, although I am not Korean, this could have been the case for many who came across Sungso by mere coincidence. She got popular because of her own merit, which, by the way the company was promoting her, I believe would have happened sooner or later with or without the IOI member.

 

Not saying that that IOI member did not play a role in getting Cosmic Girl's some attention, but saying it's only because of her why Sungso got more known to me is ridiculous imo. If that was the case then what of Gugudan and DIA? Where are the stand out member's that are getting popularity due to the IOI members??
