The actual development cycle was only 3 years though. They had the concepts for 10 years.

Well i mean, skyrim also took 3 years so ffxv is still kinda disappointing, but if we're talking about the game itself, i enjoy it a lot

Since when did it not have hype? There was so much hype for this game. People bought ps3s just for the game and then they bought ps4s just for it.

 

I don't remember anybody saying it would flop. And jrpgs are niche but Final Fantasy is pretty much mainstream and the exception.

I can see non-jrpg fans seeing the hype and saying that i guess. Though this is the most westernized FF has ever been in terms of gameplay. 

 

360 got some good games early on when they were actually trying in japan. Vesperia and Lost Odyssey were both great. Eternal Sonata was decent too.
