The Official KARD (카드) Thread // RED MOON

SJK

Recommended Posts

Should we make a voting thread for individual member's badges? Has someone any experience with this?

Somin has a badge, but it's from April days...

We can't change Somin's badge until next badge season, and no one knows when that will be. As for the other three, unless I missed a slew of good official pics, I don't think they have enough options to make great badges yet.

when is hard debuting???

No one knows. Rumor is they'll have 1 more digital single before they do, but who knows.

:( But there are some good materials for badges on current official pics. Guess we'll have to wait for their debut.

One or two decent suggestions isn't enough, imo. Inevitably something great will come along just a few months later and we'll kick ourselves for not having waited. Trust me, it happens with all fandoms that rush badges.

I also think it's a bit to early for badges. There's not enough material yet.

Here are some mocks I made just now. Original photos are from official facebook.

Agreed. Not to mention your entire first row except Jiwoo is invalid: extreme side profiles, eyes mostly closed/lowered, overly colored (even if original) and shadow obscuring half the artist's face. Row two doesn't fair much better, no one is valid except Somin because of extreme side profiles and mostly closed/lowered eyes. Row three is all valid, but those would literally be some of the only ones. Here are the only other mocks I've compiled, and I'm not keen on any of them.

Why is the song not out on iTunes yet.

Sooooooo when is DSP gonna put DR on iTunes?!?!?

iTunes has been slower and slower with releasing stuff (K-Pop anyway) lately. I've noticed that for some of my other faves too, it's 1 or 2 days before it shows up. Annoying, but I stream in the meantime.

Official copyright for "Don't Recall" just registered. No surprises here, all the same people from "Oh NaNa" are responsible for it -- Nassun, BigTone (YG Entertainment), and EJ Show (Zoobeater Sound). I wondered for a second why BM wasn't credited, then remembered that he didn't get a rap verse this time. No doubt J.Seph wrote his own verse again.

Key (for those of you unfamiliar with KOMCA)

A = Author

C = Composer

AR = Arranger

But here was a nice surprise -- the hidden version of "Don't Recall" is also registered, and since this search engine always shows the song's first lyric, now we know it starts with "Get up out my face." And the fact that BM is now credited for lyrics just seals the deal.   ENGLISH VERSION INCOMING!!!!  :happy:

Any hints at when it will be released?

I vaguely remember BM saying it would come out 10 days after the first version. So Feb 26?

No joke, now I'm singing Jiwoo's first line as "Get up out my face," and it fits so damn well.  :datass:

Nice interview. It still amuses me how... naive? sheltered? companies still are about the international K-Pop audience. I mean, these are industry folks, they're supposed to be the forward thinkers in marketing, business, and entertainment, but even they haven't confidently realized and capitalized on what really sells to the international market: maturity and diversity (the complete opposite of what sells to the Korean market). And KARD has both, so I'm not surprised at the international love they've gotten. I knew people would gravitate to them on several layers.

So yes, DSP, welcome to your global, cosmopolitan, urbane 20-something audience. Our money is ready. Don't screw it up.  :dave:

I never got that argument in K-pop? What is wrong with keeping one sound?

It's a double edged sword, from what I've seen. When you keep one sound, people get bored and criticize you for recycling (exhibit A, GFRIEND), and when you change it up, people say you have no "identity" (exhibit B, GOT7). There are valid strengths in both paths, so no matter what groups do, there will be always be a sizable outcry of dissatisfaction. I agree with you that if KARD wants to pioneer the dancehall genre in Korea, that's both commendable and smart. It would establish a niche fanbase and be their early defining image.

Many people throw their anger at DSP as though the agency exists to ruin their talents. It's really illogical, but hey, many people just want to pin the blame on anybody but themselves.

I keep saying this, but agencies can only do so much. They can pour all their budget on a group, give them the best songs and concepts, send them to all variety shows and push them like a bulldozer... but if they can't gather enough fans, it's all useless. Ultimately, it's the fans that decide whether a group succeeds or fails, not the group nor the agency.

Well said. And generally to the thread, it's no secret that I have my frustrations with any company sometimes, but if I've ever come across as a mindless bandwagon company blamer, please know that I'm not.  :lol: I can get really sarcastic with my "don't screw it up" comments, but I genuinely wish nothing but the best of luck for DSP, as it appears they've invested a lot of time and effort into KARD. I simply remain cautious, as I would for any new group, but optimistic. I've worked in marketing for nine years, I'm well aware of the eternal battle between effort and luck, and trying your damnedest to figure out the perfect balance between them.

Generally I think we (OH) have a tendency to simplify both company blamers and company defenders, missing whatever valid points either side may have just for the petty satisfaction of dueling as haters vs. kiss asses. And there's certainly a fair middle ground to be had there. We can be knowledgeable about both the powers and limitations of companies, and know when to praise or criticize them for either, like you've done.

QRLGYBO.png Nice, BM got to rap in this version! I think his tone suits this beat really well. The brick set looked really nice when they had it mostly dark with the red neon on the windows.

Somin's sung English is as good as ever. I remember watching a clip of her singing a Whitney Houston song and thinking she could have passed for a fluent speaker.

Anyone else have any idea if they have an 'official' colour yet?

No official color yet. I agree that gold would be a good interim choice, as it does suit them. I think black, gold, and silver fit them nicely.

Time to design a new OP, weeeeeee!

When I got home yesterday, I replayed multiple fancams about 20 times each and all I could make out was, "hater." But since live audio recorded on a phone is always so garbled, I wasn't going to jump to conclusions. Sure enough, the truth prevailed, and cheers to everyone who had a brain to approach this with class and decorum.

The haters, on the other hand, did nothing but embarrass themselves. But honestly their entire existence is embarrassing to begin with, so what's new. rolleyes.gif

Teaser pics look like a summer modeling campaign for American Eagle. laugh.png No complaints, though, I've been wanting something lighter to fit the season. Working on a new OP as we speak.

FINALLY, DEBUT!!! ahmagahplz.png What a perfect start to the morning. The MV was so nice to watch -- just them driving and hanging around Vegas. They're completely tailored for international audiences, and I ain't complainin'.

Does anyone know who the producer for Hola Hola was?

The exact same producers responsible for Oh NaNa, Don't Recall, and Rumor: Nassun, BIGTONE, and Oh Won Gyun.

It pains me that as much as I love that K-Pop artists are starting to do tours in the USA, it is becoming increasingly more difficult to get tickets.

Seriously. I've been to three K-Pop concerts in the last year and ticketing was like
