f(x) WAS supposed to be there actually. Then they told us last minute that they couldn't attend and that APink was going to replace them, and since they didn't attend someone else got their award.

With SMA's structure, you basically must have a fanbase to win some of the bigger awards hence why boy groups usually will prevail.

 

The criteria is:

- 20% mobile vote

- 10% Sports Seoul’s popularity poll

- 40% digital downloads and album sales

- 30% judge scores

 

That's at least 30% that requires fan involvement and a good proportion of fans for physical (and a smaller, less significantly digital wise) for a potential total of 70% that is dicated by fandoms. Its no wonder boy groups swept the awards.

SNSD got 2 daesangs at SMA, 2 years in a row [2009, 2010]...sharing that status and accomplishment with the legendary Seo Taiji & The Boys, Jo Sung Mo and H.O.T [technically doesn't count because H.O.T had to share their second daesang with Sechskies]..

not sure if exo can do that this year [because SM will not promote them heavily in korea compare to their 2013 run]..

also it would be hard for any group, let alone girl groups to do a repeat daesang run, like SNSD, Seo Taiji and Jo Sung Mo did..
