KPOP STAR 6 FINAL SEASON OFFICIAL - THE LAST CHANCE

To the OP of this thread, could you include the "Kpopstar" and/or "Kpopstar6" tags so that it's more easily found by those who are interested in this season?

It seems strange that Soomin's thread, Sohee's thread, Krisha's thread and every other Kpopstar performance-related threads have these tags except the actual main Kpopstar 6 thread.

After watching all the performances and thinking about it, Ma Eunjin was the one I liked best.

I actually think that Ma Eunjin sounded even better this round than her G-Soul cover that everyone raved about. I feel like her performance was not given the due appreciation that it deserved.Honestly she has one of the most beautiful and radio-friendly voices in the competition.

Soomin's face when Boyfriend was giving her attitude made my day. hurrplz.png

Also, I knew I stanned the right trainee when JYP revealed that both Soomin and Sohee were exceptionally nice people behind the scenes.

There seems to be two distinct groups of girl trainees and one girl connecting both groups :

The younger/younger aura/rawer group : Ko Ara, Kim Hyerim. They have the raw vocals and boundless energy. Not super-impressive by themselves as soloists but put two of them together and the raw volume and energy they put out on stage is hard to beat. They also seem the most similar in physique and thinking so their team work and synergy is the best. Their dancing is raw but energetic and can be improved with months of training time, just not on this show. These two are the Main Vocal caliber voices

The older/more mature aura/polished group : Minju, Krisha and Sohee. Impressive as soloists but very different from each other. In the time given to them on Kpopstar, there isn't enough time for them to gel fully and synergize with each other's strengths. If they were trainees in the same agency, the rough edges would be smoothed over months/years and they might be overall a better team than Ara/Hyerim in the long term. All 3 are polished dancers and charismatic on stage , with Sohee being ridiculous in dance. Another thing is that each girl is good enough to be a soloist or lead vocal in a group but none are Main Vocal caliber. It shows in the Minju/Krisha pairing. They gelled very very well out the gate but seem to have hit their ceiling in their past 2 performances together where their lack of power vocals limited the level of their performance.

Then you have Soomin. She is the bridge between the 2 groups of girls. So far she was able to mesh quite well with Krisha on BTS/BP mashup and she synergized very very well with Ko Ara, being almost able to match Ara's high notes in that performance of Bang Bang. It took time but Soomin finally gelled with Sohee on their latest performance of 2 Different Tears. Because Soomin is so versatile, she has been paired with almost every other girl trainee left in the competition except Kim Hyerim. I don't doubt any potential pairing with Hyerim would work as well as the Soomin/Ara pairing seeing as how similar Ko Ara and Kim Hyerim are. Her vocals are strong enough to be Main Vocal but she seems more comfortable being a strong lead vocalist/co-Mainvocal leading a full fledged Main Vocal like Ko Ara. She also has a very interesting tone to her vocals which allows her to shine as a soloist.

It will be very very interesting as to how the judges/PDs pair the girl trainees in the live audience rounds as it will show us their true intentions : whether they are pulling for the older more polished trainees to win and they will sabotage Ara/Hyerim and break-up their near unbeatable pairing. If they pair Minju/Krisha or Minju/Sohee or Krisha/Sohee, they are almost certainly condemning these pairs to a premature exit since their lack of power vocals will lead to no wow moments and you need wow moments to win as a duo/team.

Minju will do fine with either Ara or Hyerim since she has experience and leadership and can guide the younger girl while at the same time harnessing the younger girl's power vocals. Sohee might/might not do well with Ara/Hyerim. Krisha will struggle leading either Ara/Hyerim due to her limited Korean. Soomin's role is the most fluid : she would function as a main vocal if paired with Krisha/Minju/Sohee and all combinations will do well as Minju/Krisha/Sohee sing well enough to take some of the vocal workload off Soomin. Soomin would be leader+ lead vocal if paired with either Ara or Hyerim and this would be the more equal vocal pairings.

The most fair would be to have a 2 trios but each trio would have one of Ara or Hyerim as power vocals.

Or the judges/PD might just throw all the girls under the bus and have Boyfriend win lol.

I haven't had time to watch the subbed episode yet but is it true that Soomin and Hyerim will be in the same group?

Actually, I think that was the fault of the SBS production team.  They (SBS) messed up on the sound mixing board. There was no excuse for the singers' microphones to turned down so low that you could hardly even hear the singer's voices.  I think they corrected the balance better in part 2 of the show.  They always have some problems getting the balances perfect for the live shows, but the sound technicians really screwed up for Minari's stage.  (I'm not even slightly biased.  At this point in the competition, I'm having a hard time picking a favorite.  I like all of the contestants and I hate to see anyone get eliminated.  But right at the start of Minari's performance I knew that something was horribly wrong with the sound balance...and that wasn't Minari's fault in any way.)

Thanks for clarifying.

In that case it would have been a huge injustice for Minari to be eliminated and I'm so glad the live audience and online voters recognized that. Based on past performances, Soomin, Ara and Minju are capable of much much better than what the malfunctioning SBS sound system allowed them tonight.

Also why didn't Minari get their best English speaker Soomin to tackle the prolonged solo part? Minju's poor English pronunciation was distracting.

For Kwins, props to Hyerin for being so professional and playing off her microphone malfunction as if was nothing. Hard to believe she is only 14.

All the performances are up on Naver. You may need a VPN or region unblocker to view the videos though.

The Naver videos have better audio quality than the YT videos, being 256kbps and 48Hz, unlike YT's 128kbps and 41Hz mp3s.

Well I view it this way.

Soomin, Ara and  Minju "earned" their fanbase and this week's rescue votes by being consistently good week in week out.

It's not as if they were frequently poor in their past performances. In fact, truth be told, these 3 girls arguably have been the best OVERALL performers these past 4 months.

So yeah, they absolutely deserved their rescue vote this week.

Minari should have performed Fantastic Baby as their main song. They are doing so much better than during the Something perf. I'm in love with Soomin's voice rlytearpls.png

KWINS and Shannon have good chemistry, I wouldn't complain if they decided to put Shannon in as the final piece of the girl group in the end ahmagahplz.png

I feel like Soomin, Ara and Minju made much better song choices for themselves when they were solo or as duos. Even Kpopstar made a great choice for them in this Boyfriend-Minari collab. Minari's song choices was off perhaps partly because team chemistry is so fragile and hard to nail down.

In terms of potential, Minari had so much going for them only to be let down by sound system mishaps and poor song choice. I hope the TV audience and online voters recognize that Minari is capable of so much more and votes accordingly.
