[cpoplove] Actor/actress scorecard to be implemented next year?

One of the first things I saw today, thought folks might be interested in it:

Sohu: Speculation on the new actor/actress scorecard

Since the “Korean Artist Banâ€, it’s rumored that the Central Broadcasting Agency will institute an actor/actress scorecard next year.
– The leading cast members will need to reach a certain score before the work is allowed to be broadcast on province level television channels (these are the larger TV channels that host the most popular shows coming out to China)
– The numbers of their previously received Golden Eagle (excellence in television), Flying Apsaras (TV drama), Hundred Flowers (film, equivalent to Golden Globes) awards will also be the other main consideration in filling out the scorecard
– The public is speculating that this is official action to knock down the rise of the young fresh meat and visual idols with no acting skills

Netizens are pointing to the poor performance of “L.O.R.D.†as one of the primary reasons why this scorecard is being put into place.
– Despite the impressive cast lineup, the actual product underwhelmed and received a lukewarm audience reception
– Many of the top 50 dramas in 2016 were also filled with idols and many think that these dramas are just to fulfill fan fantasies

Kwongwah: New orders from the Central Broadcasting Agency, making an example of young fresh meat

Professionals within the entertainment industry view the scorecard as a way to suppress the popular idols with only visuals and no acting skills.
– A commonly referred to example is Ouyang Nana’s “Yes! Mr. Fashion†in which netizens attacked as “stupid and idiotic lack of acting skillsâ€

In addition to the scoring principles, it’s also said that more weight will be given to dramas that have subject matter relating to the revolution.
– This will form 70% of all dramas broadcast, and the currently popular fantasy, alternate history dramas will be restricted
– It’s said that these items are to cap skyrocketing actor/actress compensation, domination of fantasy films, etc.

There has yet to be an official statement issued about this matter

I really like the fantasy and alternate history dramas though.I'll rather see those than the ones about the revolution.Hopefully the scorecard will help stop bad acting in some areas while expanding roles offered to middle aged actors and actresses, who are great at their craft.

The delivery of lines is half of the acting. I personally have a hard time judging acting from mainland dramas sometimes because the dubbing voice doesn't seem to fit the person. How are they gonna handle this or are they putting all the blame on the actor themselves.

And idols/visuals are why people watch some things in the first place lol.

This started all because of the backlash received from Li Yifeng winning an award...people were literally shocked. Anyway, this won't affect anything, because everyone watches dramas on iQiyi, LeTv, Youku, etc. anyway. This will only decrease ratings of provincial channels even further since the streaming sites are producing quality dramas now and selling it to tv stations isn't even an end goal anymore.

Other things that need to be changed:

1. Cap the leads' salary to 30-40% of the production amount, and let them invest in the production to get a cut later on if the drama does well

2. Stop destroying the storylines of popular online novels. At least hire the original author to write the screenplay like Nirvana in Fire and LoveO2O

3. Don't give actors the power to change the script at their whim, the cocky ones have no respect for directors and screenwriters

4. Don't allow the actor to take on 4-5 projects at once. They are never on set when they should be and the poor crew have to rely on body doubles and post production editing to piece the drama together.

The intention may be good, but...

... I can see this giving already established actors an unfair stranglehold on roles, and stymie new blood from rising.

Absolutely, this was actually my thought too -- just how is new blood supposed to break into the field then?

YES YES YES

I can't say yes more

Honestly though, this needs to happen naturally. Chinese audiences should start being more critical for starters, but maybe some kind of soft push would be nice...

Same, if only people were cast for their actual skills....

He won a Best Supporting actor award recently for the movie Mr. Six. He's always been bashed for his acting though and it became controversial with people saying the award show was based on popularity and not merit.

Hell yeah, I agree with this implementation. I disagree that more weight should be given to dramas that have matter relating to revolution. More people will attempt to write it, and may end up discouraging artistic creativity. However many awards are usually based on popularity of instead of true acting skills.

Just my opinion.
