It depends on whether they were awarding based on the individual hits or all sales. If it's individual, Whistle sold and streamed more than DG, WM, and VVV, but globally I.O.I sold and streamed more. 

 

Anyways, award shows aren't really ever objective, so maybe next time Blackpink will have sold more, but will lose to the new popular rookies. It just sucks for I.O.I because it's their last chance.

LOL to your logic. The girls work hard and they deserve the award. They have took over korea in 2016 but get nothing here in MMA???? Not even bother to give them seat or red carpet + they are robbed their award???? No wonder so many corruption occur.

 

Regardless whether they are temporary group or not, IOI deserves the award. MMA & YG can mess with other artist but IOI is a group produce by the national producer. Lets see how they will get away from this

Well the Best New Artists is given to someone who has brought something new to the music scene and who the judges think will move on to have a big and long career not about success.

I stan neither, but I'm pretty sure that IOI also has fans that supported and helped the group this whole year to get where they did, is it fair not to give them an award only because they're supposed to disband? it's their work, most of those girls won't ever get the chance to touch this type of awards again because some of them will be put in groups knetz will not really care about. and their impact this year was huge, enormous, they promoted the whole year.

Is there any confirmation on whether or not it was based off cumulative downloads/streaming or just the debut song? Plus, would whatta man be counted as it's from a subunit?

 

By leaving the criteria vague, it makes it unfair to both artists. I hope they release a clarification post in the future with a full breakdown.
