And people will stop looking out weather the released is under Studio J or not coz promotion doesn't guarantee success too, the music type really matters more.

Since the year is almost over, why don't we share our 2016 dream releases?

In alphabetical order:

15& studio album

Baek A Yeon studio album

Bernard Park mini or studio album (I'm the most neutral about Bernard in this company)

DAY6 studio album

G.Soul studio album

HA:TFELT studio album

Jo Kwon mini or studio album (musically, I'm pretty neutral about Jo Kwon too)

miss A mini album (their full albums never seem to have as many good songs as their minis)

TWICE studio album

Wonder Girls mini album

Yubin mini album

Are 2PM military-bound next year or 2017? I've also left off GOT7, since I think they're getting overexposed. I want people to actually have the time to miss them; makes the comeback so much more anticipated. If they do anything in 2016, I'd prefer the end of the year, Novemberish.

And also what do u think they need to be bigger and be able to rival bigger groups..

The same things anybody needs: timing, luck, and a viral video wouldn't hurt either, because for damn sure music quality doesn't guarantee widespread mainstream success. This discussion is always hilarious, because it brings out three kinds of fans:

1. The PhDs in music - Might be my personal favorite. They think they know it, boy, even if it's just in abstraction. They know there's a secret chord progression or hook melody that will guarantee itself as The Next Big Song, and they just want their biases to put it out already! That ish has already been blown wide open, it's I–V–vi–IV, and your bias's last three songs had it. Did it work? Next.

2. The Artistic Directors - These are folks that always hollering for better concepts, no matter what it is. And in GOT7's case, it's a pretty clear war of, Keep the boyfriend idols, they're naturally fun and upbeat! No, make them manlier and more serious! On and on and on. People need to realize that groups have made it huge in K-pop while looking, singing, and dancing absolutely ridiculously. Concept doesn't matter nearly as much as anyone would like to think.

3. The Marketing Directors - Because everybody sitting at home behind their computer is a South Korean marketing genius and knows the exact shows, interviews, and appearances that need to be made in order to guarantee widespread exposure and popularity. Let me hand it to you, fan Sherlock, just because you can find a TV show appearance with two clicks on YouTube doesn't mean it had any impact in Korea.

Sorry, none of this is addressed at you specifically, just toward the discussion as a whole.

TL; DR: popularity has no fail-proof formula except timing.

Hi all, I was messing around with some DAY6 badges and realized that there's no Studio J badge. Do we want/need one? Might be redundant, since we're all covered under JYP Nation. (But YG's HIGHGRND has its own badge, so I was just curious.)

I imagine it would look like this.

i like Kwon's teaser pic! is it just me or anyone else also looked for a studio J logo on his teaser pics? lol

i hope he promote under JYP ><

I know you don't say this with any true ill will, but really, the shade, no matter how slight, against Studio J's promotions (or lack thereof) really needs to stop. And that goes for everybody, I'm not calling you out in particular. This is the JYP Nation thread, which Studio J also lives under; we all come here as a haven, so can we refrain from shading Studio J's marketing at every opportunity? There are Nation fans like myself who like the fact that JYPE now has an art-house label that doesn't engage its artists in the mainstream entertainment world the way idols do.

Constructive criticism is one thing, and I both encourage and enjoy a mutually respectful discussion. That is not, however, what anyone actually brings to the table when Studio J is mentioned. Most of the time, it just becomes a litany of, why aren't they going on music shows, why aren't they doing X show or Y appearance, in short, why aren't they JYP? Studio J isn't just a different logo--it's a completely different business model, aiming for a different audience, and was meant as such. It doesn't mean you have to like it, but I ask that everyone realize and respect the difference. We can air our frustrations in other notable threads.

I mean, I get it. We're really spoiled by mainstream idol world. It's what all of us are used to: 17,000 music show performances, nearly that many appearances, dozens of photoshoots, merchandise, you name it, they do it. It's an entertainment feast, one that we can find very easily--two clicks on YouTube, at the most--and we feel empowered being able to do that. Fandom solidarity is so accessible when you stan idols, and it can give you a great sense of validation.

So yes, it can be very frustrating to then step into indie world, where the music is soul-crushingly amazing, and deserves to be shouted from the rooftops, but... isn't. It's simply there, for whoever manages to find it. That's the very nature of indie, and if you're going to like what it produces, then that's just the trade-off you have to accept: incredibly satisfying artistry, little to no mainstream popularity. There are exceptions, of course, but 95% of indie acts never cross that divide, and what's more important--most of them don't want to. Nobody's holding a gun to G.Soul, DAY6, Jimin, or Yerin's backs. If they wanted to promote like idols, they have the avenues and resources to do so.

I've typed and erased and re-typed this novel about 100 times, but I believe I've worded the final product as respectfully as I could. I'm not attacking anyone personally, and I'm not trying to create further arguments about what Studio J should or should not be. Obviously we're all here because we love the Nation. My bottom line is simply that the Nation has two states now, and they are completely independent sovereignties, with their own ways of running house. Rather than always shading the differences between them (whether subtly or openly), we can like and respect both for their separate purposes.

Errr i didn't mean that way. I just wish for Kwon to promote on tv, whether he is or not and whether you like it or not. Its a personal wish.

And that's fine, we all have our personal wishes. Like I said, I'm not calling you out in particular. The point was for anyone in general to quit shading Studio J as "inferior" in promotions just because the business model is different. I mean, we don't even know what Jo Kwon is under yet, so this isn't even specific to him. I was just making a general talking point about the state of the Nation.

The issue with Studio J I personally have is the fact that it hasn't shown the purpose of its creation... Now It literally feels as if JYP created it just for the sake of cutting taxes for the less popular artists.. I would have no problems if they increased their releases..

If quantity is your only issue, you're simply just applying a bias we've learned from the idol side. Again, I get it, it's hard not to. We're used to it, we expect and hope for it it from all our faves. I'd LOVE to have a Studio J release every month--we all would! But just because we don't get that doesn't mean we're free to paint the label as a success or failure with one broad brushstroke criticism of, they don't have enough releases, so they haven't proven their purpose. Since when does quantity equal purpose?

If Studio J gets scrapped, fine, I'll be the first to say, well, JYP tried the indie sub-label route and it didn't work. Too bad. But even then, business matters like that are a complex Gordian Knot, full of various inside factors that no fan will ever be privy to. As Fireball said, having these different avenues under one roof is what will keep the talent pool diverse and ever evolving.

I feel like there is no structure to how Studio J operates.. We have yet to see how having Studio J is considered a competitive advantage over other companies.. talking about results of course..

I personally had the expectation of Studio J being used as the platform where artists could express their art.. like Jun. K or Yubin or even Hatfelt... artists that release the music they love to make..

I admit that Studio J is hardly a competitive indie label that is widely known and/or respected. That can be disheartening. We all agree the music is amazing, so of course we want to see it get the industry and general public recognition it deserves. This has to come with time, though; it has to find its breakthrough public hit just like any other label, indie or mainstream. I'm definitely not chucking it over my shoulder as a lost cause after just one year.

To your second point, I believe Studio J has been exactly that. G.Soul, DAY6, and Yerin have composed all their own material under its roof. They've all expressed great satisfaction in having the freedom to make the kind of music they love. I too look forward to the day Jun. K, HA:TFELT, and many others join this roster. Again, though, just because that day isn't today doesn't mean I need to chuck the whole operation over my shoulder.

I think you're definitely right in clarifying the Studio J criticism as residual dissatisfaction with JYPE. This is both inevitable and understandable. But now that we're all aware of that pre-judgment, we can definitely back off the dead horse. I'd like to be able to share our love of the music without it always being hand in hand with the negativity and dissatisfaction regarding marketing or management.

Geez, gone for a day, and I come back to Conan O'Brien, of all people. What kind of left field randomness...? I hope it's good, whatever it is they're planning.

JYP collabs are confounding me so far this year. Suzy/Baekhyun was under Mystic, now G.Soul/San E are under KT Music. I only mention it because I hope they're getting royalties somehow.  :ninja:

Jo Kwon's song sounds beautiful. I don't usually flock to K-ballads, but they're good on rainy days.

Christ, if G.Soul is airing his grievances over social media, I hope they (JYPE) know it's only a matter of time. And I just spent the last few days defending Studio J, too. *roll eyes* No, I don't suddenly want idol-like promotions for them, and I never will, but it's clear there's dissent in-house. And whatever the F it is, they really need to figure it out. I have a few Dean and Crush songs in my collection, but I'm not familiar enough with their stories to know how they rose to their current popularity. Whatever the method was (maybe ZICO really is a good luck charm), JYPE needs to cultivate it.

But I feel like this whole JYPE-Studio J thing is such an odd situation because it's really them trying to balance out the artsy/indie route with the mainstream/major label route everyone is used to. I'm sure it can be possible to play into both, but it might not be exactly black and white either.

Yes, thank you for saying it so much more eloquently than I could. They just have to find that (often razor thin) line of opportunity. Timing is everything.

Trust me, I cling to that fact more than anything.  It's just amusing to see both ends of the spectrum getting press and/or online exposure on the same day.

KOMCA Credits for Kwon's album

Crosswalk - 100001271994 - Written by Jo Kwon; Composed by eSNa

It's Okay - 100001271996 - Written by Ryan S. Jhun, Kim Sung Hee, Denzil Remedios; Composed by Ryan S. Jhun, Denzil Remedios

Flutter - 100001271997 - Written by Jo Kwon; Composed by Lee Byeong Ho, Baek Hyeon Soo, Kim Ki Wook

eSNa is a 2AM staple. She also famously composed "Some" by Soyou and JunggiGo and various MAMAMOO tracks. And it looks like the JYP-SM collab-ing went much further than just Suho starring in the MV. Ryan S. Jhun also composed 15&'s "Somebody," Taeyeon's "I," and Red Velvet's "Dumb Dumb," among other SM artists. Denzil Remedios is an SM composer with various songs from SHINee and Super Junior under his credit. The composers for "Flutter" seem to be Korean ballad staple writers.

Honestly, with all the negativity here towards JYP, it doesn't make me want to come on the JYPe thread and I'm pretty sure many others are done with the negativity here. Is this the JYPe thread or the JYP bashing thread?? You know where to go if you want to throw out the extra salt...

I'm just confused by the timing of it all. I know he'd been going through that drama, but him leaving now, right before a release? Did he not participate in the album, then? No jacket photoshoot, no MV, no vocals, no keyboard? Or are they furiously re-recording as we speak? It's confounding, to say the least. You don't pull a release together in a matter of days, that takes months of planning. If him leaving has been brewing for a while, it just make no sense.

Train with the same guys (minus Dowoon) for years and years, invest all this time and effort, and... leave after 5 months. I mean, it's true we'll never know 100% how it went down, but that's just... dismal.
