Article: Jackie Chan's "I am half Korean" statement earns 'divided response' from Chinese netizens

Source: TV Daily via Nate

He was in Korea on the 17th for the red carpet event for 'Police Story 2014', where he thanked Korean fans for their support by saying that he's "half Korean" at heart.

Chinese netizens commented, "He's an opportunist", "Is promoting his movie that important", "Disappointing", "He's always had a deep relationship with Korea so he's obviously just expressing his love for the country", and "Why are people over exaggerating over something he said for the moment".

1. [+815, -19] Jackie Chan seems like he was expressing his deep connections to Korea in a roundabout way, nothing for the Chinese to get so mad over

2. [+618, -18] It's not like he put his own people down ã…‹ He was just saying something nice for the fans who came to love his omvie, nothing to get mad over! ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹

3. [+536, -27] Jackie Chan is honestly our friend, hyung, oppa, and family.

4. [+28, -4] I bet if Choi Min Shik, Song Kang Ho, or Jang Dong Gun went to China and said "I'm half Chinese", our country's netizens would completely terminate him from the industry. Don't hate on the Chinese netizens... Korean netizens would be worse.

5. [+23, -0] It's true that the Chinese netizens shouldn't be so mad over this... but if our country's Bae Yong Jun said something like "I'm half Japanese", we'd hate on him too... We have no reason to hate on the Chinese netizens.

6. [+19, -3] I bet all of you would hate on any of our celebrity who says the same thing in another country too

7. [+15, -1] I completely understand why the Chinese netizens would be angry. Imagine of Chaeyeon said she was half chinese or KARA said they were half Japanese.. I don't think our netizens would react any differently. People would say things like, "Go pack up and live in Japan if you like Japan that much."

8. [+8, -2] He used to live in Korea for a years and his first love was Korean.. ã…‹ I can see why he'd say that!

Chinese netizens hate him for being an amoral hypocrite and licking the communist party boots, over the last few years :

- he called the US the most corrupt country in the world after making heaps of money there

- said we should not talk about Chinese issues openly

- Called Taiwan and Hong Kong chaotic and said freedom was not good

- Said Chinese people need to be controlled

Also :

- Cheated on his wife with a miss Asia

- Refused to recognise the child born of the affair

Well, it does seem Koreans and Chinese have strong nationality at heart - but I do think Jackie Chan just meant he likes Korean (and maybe the culture, people, language etc), it doesn't really mean anything much.

I, sometimes do feel Korean at heart too because I follow too much Kpop to the extent some things doesn't sound foreign (seniority thing etc). I think he just meant it that way
